Navigating Trust Challenges in Irans Diplomatic Relations

In the context of complex regional relations, statements made by His Excellency Dr. [Anwar Gargash](https://dubai-lifestyle.ae/anwar-gargash-uaes-defensive-measures-will-be-transparent/), the diplomatic advisor to the President of the UAE, have dominated discussions around Iran. He emphasized that the UAE does not seek hostility with Iran, but there is no trust in this regime. These remarks are part of a call to enhance dialogue with major powers, considering the security and economic challenges facing the region. Despite the interest in rebuilding relations, key issues and tensions remain, necessitating international efforts to achieve security and stability in the Gulf.

## Call for Dialogue and Cooperation

According to His Excellency Gargash, the UAE is ready to return to dialogue with Iran, but this is contingent upon the existence of necessary trust. He pointed out that “the foundations are very strong for the UAE’s return,” stressing the importance of working diligently to achieve that. At the same time, he expressed concern over the lack of trust in the Iranian regime, highlighting the need to find a clear agreement to resolve outstanding issues.

## Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz

He addressed the developments in the Strait of Hormuz, affirming that the UAE does not seek to act as a naval power but will join any international or American efforts to secure navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed that this is vital for the global economy, stating that “the Strait of Hormuz cannot be held hostage by any country.”

## Iran and Its Regional Surroundings

Gargash clarified that the Iranian regime operates for its own interests rather than for the interests of the state, making it difficult to support any agreement without addressing these fundamental issues. He stated, “We also wish to see an end to this conflict, but its conclusion should not lead to ongoing instability in the region.” This requires going beyond a mere ceasefire to include addressing key issues that could exacerbate security conditions.

## Partnership with the United States and International Support

His Excellency Gargash spoke about the strategic partnership with the United States, clarifying that “our main security partner is the United States” and that the UAE will strengthen its relationship with Washington. He also expressed gratitude to the countries providing support, noting that Bahrain will remain a bulwark against any threat. He emphasized the importance of cooperation in facing crises, as countries are measured in times of adversity.

In supportive moments, His Excellency Dr. Anwar Gargash praised the resilience of the Kingdom of Bahrain, stressing that any Iranian aggression must be confronted with the unity of all nations. His words encapsulate the UAE’s position: we do not seek hostility with Iran, but there is no trust in this regime, and we need to be optimistic and cautious at the same time to face the challenges ahead.
