UAE Drives Significant Growth in Middle Eastern Steel Industry

The future of the steel market in the Middle East looks promising, largely due to the strategic initiatives undertaken by the United Arab Emirates. As an influential player in the global steel industry, the UAE is spearheading innovations that prioritize sustainability and adaptability. With the emergence of robust growth patterns, the future of steel in the region is not only bright but also reflective of dynamic market transformations driven by Emirati companies.

Strategic Resilience in a Volatile Market

Saeed Al-Remeithi, the CEO of Emsteel, which is listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange and ranks among the top producers of steel and construction materials in the region, has unveiled the company’s strategy focused on “flexibility” to navigate what he described as “significant fluctuations and challenges” in the global steel market. Al-Remeithi shared his insights during the 28th Iron and Steel Conference, highlighting that Emsteel currently sells its products in over 70 markets. The “core strategy” is to maintain flexibility and market diversity, thereby avoiding reliance on one or two specific markets, which allows them to adapt to any market aligning with their strategic goals.

Impressive Financial Performance

In a notable financial achievement, Emsteel reported a net profit of AED 283 million (approximately $77.1 million) during the first nine months of 2025. This figure marks a remarkable increase of 209% compared to the same period the previous year. Such financial resilience underscores the company’s robust position within the steel industry, particularly in light of the shifting dynamics in the market.

Emerging Trends in Sustainability

One of the most pressing themes at the conference was the urgent need to “accelerate the reduction of carbon emissions,” especially given that the iron and steel sector accounts for 8% of global emissions. Al-Remeithi pointed out, “We are currently 45% below the global average in emissions, which is a point of pride for the company.” He recalled an early investment exceeding €80 million in carbon capture technology that is now being utilized in collaboration with “Riada” at ADNOC.

Middle East as a Growth Engine

Identifying the Middle East, particularly the UAE, as a crucial growth driver, Al-Remeithi stated, “The Middle East market is promising and is the focal point for low-carbon steel production and consumption.” He emphasized that the region’s market remains “always healthy” and is witnessing growth compared to global markets, reinforcing that “the UAE market is the largest and fastest in this field.” This sentiment reflects a broader optimism about the region’s potential to lead in sustainable steel production, showcasing the UAE’s commitment to pioneering developments in this critical industry.

With such strategic initiatives and a commitment to sustainability, the future of the steel market in the Middle East, especially driven by the UAE, holds considerable promise for growth and innovation.
