Billionaire Ryan Househam: The Wealthy Are Returning to Dubai and the British Government Missed the Opportunity

As Dubai regains its shine as a preferred destination for investors and entrepreneurs, British billionaire Ryan Househam highlights the details of this transformation. The significance of the wealthy returning to Dubai reflects the favorable tax environment and economic attractiveness offered by the UAE. Amid escalating global crises and competition, it appears that the British government has squandered a golden opportunity to attract capital and talent. Househam’s statements shed light on how the market is responding to attract and support the wealthy and investors.

Dubai’s Appeal to Expats

Ryan Househam, founder of Stay Sure Insurance, stated that Dubai continues to attract expatriates thanks to its flexible economic environment and favorable tax system. In his interview with The Telegraph, Househam noted that many Britons are returning to Dubai following a reduction in regional tensions. About 30,000 Britons left during the peak of these tensions, but many are beginning to return, indicating growing confidence in Dubai as an ideal destination for business and living.

Missed Opportunities in Britain

Househam addressed the opportunities the British government has lost in attracting entrepreneurs through tangible tax reductions. He remarked, “The families living in Dubai are the ones driving the economy,” warning of the negative impact of current economic policies in the UK. He pointed out that a comprehensive package of tax cuts would have led to a swift and significant return of entrepreneurs.

Economic Advantages of Dubai

In addition to the absence of personal income tax or capital gains tax, Househam noted that Dubai offers a highly competitive environment for starting businesses. The economic landscape there has significantly aided him in expanding his investments, with his company Stay Sure achieving a valuation between £800 million and £1.2 billion after selling a minority stake to private equity firm ICG in 2024. The business environment in Dubai, coupled with the spirit of entrepreneurship, has made it a magnet for investors and wealthy individuals.

Challenges of Current British Policy

Househam specifically criticized the economic policies of the UK Labour government, considering them unsupportive of growth. The increase in national insurance contributions and changes to inheritance tax have negatively affected small and family businesses, prompting many entrepreneurs to reconsider their options. Although Househam is contemplating a return to the UK in the future, he is currently heading back to Dubai, clearly reflecting the ongoing allure of Dubai as a global hub for investors and entrepreneurs.
