UAE India Trade Surges with Impressive 37% Growth

Over the past four years, the trade relationship between the UAE and India has demonstrated significant growth, achieving a remarkable 37% increase. This milestone was celebrated by business leaders, policymakers, and industry experts during a gathering in Dubai that focused on the vibrant future of this bilateral partnership. This article explores the progress and opportunities presented by this comprehensive economic partnership, illustrating how the agreement has opened doors for innovation and collaboration across multiple sectors.

Celebrating a Strong Partnership

Figures from a recent high-level forum hosted by the Indian Business and Professional Council in Dubai underscore the impact of the comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) that came into effect in 2022. The event brought together government representatives, diplomatic missions, trade councils, family-owned businesses, and sovereign investment groups to discuss future initiatives for fostering economic cooperation between the UAE and India. Dr. Sahitya Chaturvedi, Secretary General of the Indian Business and Professional Council in Dubai, noted that bilateral trade has surged by 37% since the agreement’s implementation.

Enhanced Trade and Economic Integration

Highlighting the growth metrics, Dr. Chaturvedi revealed that UAE exports to India rose by 41%, while Indian exports to the UAE increased by 30%. This growth underscores the role of the CEPA in bolstering non-oil trade and overall economic integration. The discussion emphasized that both nations are aligned on an ambitious goal: to elevate bilateral trade to $200 billion. Key contributing factors include the rising exports of precious pearls, metals, jewelry, electrical machinery, and mineral fuels.

Exploring Emerging Opportunities

The discussions at the forum also spotlighted various sectors ripe for collaboration. Sectors such as pharmaceuticals, digital trade, logistics, manufacturing, fintech, healthcare, aviation, and international investments present promising opportunities that align with Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33. Ahmed Al Junaibi, Director of the CEPA between the UAE and India, affirmed that the partnership extends beyond mere trade facilitation, evolving into deeper economic integration driven by innovation, entrepreneurship, and talent mobility.

Commitment to Future Growth

Throughout the event, participants engaged in discussions about easing investment barriers, enhancing supply chain resilience, and improving market access. The collective emphasis on continuous institutional coordination and policy alignment reflects a shared commitment to achieving long-term economic objectives for both nations. As the UAE and India navigate an increasingly interconnected global economy, their partnership serves as a model for strategic economic collaboration.
