UAE real estate developer Arada has made a strategic move in the fitness sector by acquiring three prominent gym brands, significantly enhancing its footprint in the country’s thriving wellness industry. This bold initiative has positioned Arada’s fitness division, now valued at $272 million, to target a remarkable membership goal of 100,000 as it continues to innovate within the UAE’s competitive fitness market.
The acquisition underscores Arada’s ambition to become a leading player in the fitness, sports, and wellness sector, solidifying its reputation as one of the fastest-growing operators in the region.
Expansion of Fitness Division
With the recent purchase, the fitness and wellness division of Arada is now valued at AED 1 billion ($272 million). This expanded portfolio encompasses a total of 15 flagship and standard-scale gyms and studios strategically located in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, serving a combined membership of 30,000 fitness enthusiasts.
Details of the Acquisition
The three newly acquired brands are:
- Ladies-only superclub FitnGlam
- Boutique exercise hub The Platform Studios
- Recently launched health club FITCODE
These brands will be integrated into Arada’s existing wellness division, which already features six Wellfit-branded fitness clubs. With 11 additional locations in the planning stages, the division is poised to operate a total of 26 gyms across the UAE, further increasing its membership capacity to 73,000.
Future Growth and Vision
By the end of 2027, Arada aims to expand its fitness division to 40 locations, aspiring to engage a total membership of 100,000. Ahmed Alkhoshaibi, Group CEO of Arada, emphasized the significance of this acquisition, stating, “This new acquisition perfectly positions Arada’s portfolio of gym operators as the locations of choice for UAE consumers as we embark on our next stage of growth, which will include new and complementary ventures in holistic health and wellness.”
Alkhoshaibi further noted that integrating these vibrant brands aligns with Arada’s mission of creating spaces that foster healthier, happier, and more meaningful lives.
Leadership and Expertise
As part of this strategic expansion, George Flooks has been appointed CEO of Arada’s fitness and wellness division. With over 13 years of experience leading a major fitness chain in the UAE and considerable managerial expertise across more than 160 clubs in the UK, Flooks brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role. “With its award-winning membership experience, an inclusive and family-friendly approach, and innovative use of technology, Arada has already established itself as the market leader in this space here in the UAE,” stated Flooks.
He expressed his excitement about building upon the division’s success, integrating the newly acquired brands, and achieving the ambitious growth targets set forth by the company.
Founded in 2021, Wellfit has already attracted 16,000 members across its six locations. Its first flagship facility, the 75,000-square-foot Wellfit Jumeirah Village Circle, has earned the title of Superclub of the Year for two consecutive years at the REPs Industry Awards, showcasing its dedication to excellence in the fitness sector.
FitnGlam stands out as the UAE’s first homegrown fitness concept dedicated entirely to women’s health, boasting six branches, including three superclubs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Platform Studios, launched in 2018, offers a luxurious fitness experience with four locations across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, FITCODE seeks to broaden its wellness offerings with an inclusive approach, having opened its first facility in Tilal Al Ghaf and two additional locations planned.
This acquisition will enable significant synergies among the brands, providing members with diverse options suited to their lifestyle preferences and budgets. Existing members will also benefit from a wider range of services and facilities, enhancing their overall experience within Arada’s expanding fitness division.
