The fifth edition of the “Congress of Arabic and Creative Industries” is set to take place on 20th September 2026 at Manarat Al Saadiyat, organised by the Abu Dhabi Centre for Arabic Language under the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. This year’s theme is “Arabic as a Civilisational Structure: Identity, Knowledge, and Economic Power in the Digital Age.” The congress aims to gather a distinguished selection of experts, decision-makers, and researchers to envision the future of the Arabic language and highlight its growing role in supporting the creative economy.
Exploring the Arabic Language’s Impact on Creative Economies
The event focuses on strategies to leverage the Arabic language as a catalyst for cultural and economic development by advancing creative industries, promoting intellectual property systems, and enhancing Arabic language technology. This is particularly relevant in the context of rapid developments in artificial intelligence and digital technology, creating new opportunities for creators, entrepreneurs, and knowledge institutions both within the Arab world and beyond.
A Vision for Creative Growth
Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, stated, “Over the past decade, Abu Dhabi has pursued a clear vision and sustained investment in building institutions and platforms that solidify the foundations of creativity, expand its horizons, and empower it to grow and influence.” He emphasized that the city is poised to advance to a more developed stage where creativity transforms into a productive force and a sustainable cultural and economic value.
Establishing a Robust Institutional Framework
This vision is reflected in a comprehensive institutional framework starting with the Abu Dhabi Centre for Arabic Language, which fosters a knowledge base and market system that enhances the presence and growth of the Arabic language. Coupled with institutions like the Abu Dhabi Arts Centre, which supports the development of local artistic production, this initiative aims to broaden access to a global audience. Through these efforts, a vibrant environment is cultivated that not only embraces creativity but enables it to evolve into impactful productions, intellectual property, economic opportunities, and sustained value.
Language as a Pillar of Identity and Economy
<p"Arabic is not only an extension of our identity and cultural memory but also a central pillar in the creative economy that Abu Dhabi is building," Al Mubarak remarked. He stressed its role in producing knowledge and content, empowering talents, and converting creativity into lasting economic and cultural value. Abu Dhabi remains committed to establishing a cultural and creative model that is grounded in its identity while aspiring to have a global impact, contributing to shaping the future of cultural and creative industries.
A Platform for Dialogue and Innovation
Dr Ali bin Tamim, Head of the Abu Dhabi Centre for Arabic Language, reinforced that “the Arabic language is not merely a communication tool; it is a civilisational pillar that preserves identity and memory, produces knowledge, and opens paths for creativity and innovation.” He highlighted that Arabic has historically been a dynamic force in building civilisations and exchanging knowledge, with current capabilities to contribute to the knowledge economy and technological transformation.
Diverse Programme Featuring Prestigious Speakers
The congress will feature a diverse programme with panel discussions, training sessions, and workshops led by speakers from renowned cultural institutions, universities, publishing houses, and leading digital platforms. Keynote contributions include Anne-Claire L’Heureux, President of the Arab World Institute, who will discuss the Arabic language as a living creative force through multilingual identities and emerging creator contributions. Additionally, Natasha Hemmingway, CEO of commercial and marketing affairs at “Shahid,” will present the evolving relationship between Arabic content, digital platforms, and the creative economy.
Encouraging Youth Innovation and Engagement
Furthermore, the congress will continue its “X Youth Congress” initiative, providing emergent creators and innovators opportunities to develop skills and interact directly with industry leaders, turning their ideas into impactful projects. This year’s event will conclude with the “Youth Innovation Awards,” honouring outstanding ideas that contribute to the future of the Arabic language in cultural and creative sectors.
