Dr. Anwar Gargash, the diplomatic advisor to the President of the UAE, has emphatically stated that the United Nations was established to foster dialogue, not to entrench divisions or settle scores. His remarks come in the context of ongoing discussions about international diplomacy and the UN’s role in conflict resolution.
Support for Lana Nusseibeh’s Nomination
In a recent post on the platform “X,” Dr. Gargash welcomed the constructive discourse surrounding the nomination of Lana Nusseibeh for a prestigious international position. He noted that her candidacy is underpinned by her proven track record in bridging divides and promoting diplomacy.
Critique of Discontent
While acknowledging the support for Nusseibeh, Dr. Gargash also pointed out that such a nomination would naturally elicit some objections from more hardline voices. He stressed that the focus should remain on objective debate regarding her qualifications, rather than letting ideological differences cloud the discussion.
Response to Iranian Parliamentary Leader
Dr. Gargash specifically addressed the comments made by Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Iranian Parliament Speaker, describing them as lacking in objectivity. He underscored that the essence of the United Nations is to enhance dialogue and address disputes, rather than facilitating enmities or personal vendettas.
A Hope for Thoughtful Engagement
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Gargash expressed his hope that any inflammatory comments, such as those from Mr. Qalibaf, might reflect the views of his social media manager rather than his personal stance. This suggests a desire for more considered and constructive engagement in international discussions.
