In a critical reminder for road safety, Abu Dhabi Police clarifies the penalty for failing to comply with the “stop” signal when school buses are in operation. The police have announced a fine of 1,000 AED and the addition of 10 traffic points for drivers who fail to stop when the school bus’s “stop” sign is extended. This measure is aimed at ensuring the safety of schoolchildren while crossing the road.
Importance of Compliance
Abu Dhabi Police emphasizes the necessity for all drivers to come to a complete stop when the “stop” sign is deployed on school buses. This rule applies not only to vehicles approaching from behind the bus but also to those that might be traveling in the opposite direction. Drivers must maintain a distance of at least five meters from the bus to ensure the safe crossing of students.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
The repercussions for failing to adhere to the “stop” signal can be severe. By imposing a 1,000 AED fine along with 10 traffic points, Abu Dhabi Police aims to deter careless driving habits that endanger children. This penalty serves as a serious reminder that road safety regulations must be followed diligently.
Educating Drivers
In addition to enforcing penalties, Abu Dhabi Police is committed to educating drivers about the critical role they play in protecting the lives of young pedestrians. Awareness campaigns will be rolled out to reinforce the importance of stopping for school buses and understanding the potential risks associated with neglecting these signs.
Community Responsibility
Ultimately, the safety of students is a community effort. Abu Dhabi Police encourages parents and guardians to talk to their children about safe crossing practices and to report any reckless driving around school zones. By working together, the community can create a safer environment for all students.
