In a pioneering step toward developing transportation systems, the Integrated Transport Center, part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi, announced the global launch of smart modular vehicles for the first time. This launch took place during the “Drift X 2025” exhibition, held as part of “Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Week,” marking a significant milestone in transportation innovations.
Smart Modular Vehicles: A Technological Transformation in Transport
Smart modular vehicles represent a new and advanced type of adaptable vehicle, featuring a system that allows for connection or separation based on operational needs. Developed by “NExT,” these vehicles form an independent category on the roads, signifying a qualitative shift that positions Abu Dhabi as a leader in innovations in this field.
Research and Studies: The Foundation of Innovation
This development is based on a scientific foundation supported by research and studies published by international institutions in New York and Abu Dhabi. These vehicles have received global awards following field trials that demonstrated the effectiveness of these systems in improving road efficiency, enhancing sustainability, and increasing urban transportation flexibility.
Pilot Operations and the Smart Future
The Integrated Transport Center is leading this transformation in collaboration with the Emirates Driving Company, “Liftango,” and “Paradigma Innovation Hub” to implement the first pilot operation of smart modular vehicles on Yas Island. This experience paves the way for a new future of smart transportation in the capital.
Vision for the Future
Dr. Abdullah Hamad Al-Ghafli, Acting Director-General of the Integrated Transport Center, emphasized the importance of these initiatives in establishing Abu Dhabi as a global hub for innovative transportation technologies. He noted that supporting smart modular vehicles is a strategic step toward building a more integrated and intelligent transportation system that reflects the emirate’s vision of adopting future solutions.
Antonio Guadagnino, Chief Information Officer at “NExT,” expressed pride in the partnership with the Integrated Transport Center. He indicated that smart modular vehicles represent an effective solution that can be implemented immediately without the need for new infrastructure, with the potential to reduce traffic congestion and improve first and last-mile services.
These innovations serve as a vital response to the transportation challenges facing the world, contributing to shaping the future of transport over the next decade.
