Abu Dhabi Claims Iran Targeted UAE Tanker in Hormuz

Highlighting regional tensions, Abu Dhabi accused Iran of launching an attack with two drones on an Emirati oil tanker while it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz. This incident underscores the significance of the issue amid the volatile situation in the region, where maritime navigation freedom is crucial for securing global energy flows.

In an official statement, Abu Dhabi accused Iran of carrying out the attack targeting the Emirati oil tanker as it passed through the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its “strong condemnation and denunciation of the Iranian terrorist attack.” The ministry clarified that the assault occurred using two drones, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is one of the leading oil and gas companies globally, wholly owned by the government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. ADNOC comprises 20 subsidiaries and joint ventures, reinforcing its vital role in both the regional and international economy.

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the attack is considered a blatant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which ensures freedom of navigation and prohibits targeting commercial vessels or disrupting maritime passages. The ministry condemned the use of the Strait of Hormuz as an economic pressure tool, stating that this constitutes acts of piracy by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and poses a direct threat to regional stability and the protection of global energy.

The UAE reiterated the necessity for Iran to cease these assaults, affirming its full commitment to ending all hostilities and the need for the strait to be reopened completely and unconditionally. These statements come as part of a broader emphasis on the importance of regional security and the stability of the global economy and trade.

In closing, the UK Maritime Trade Operations reported that an unidentified projectile struck the tanker in Hormuz, with no damage to the crew. Tensions between the United States and Iran regarding navigation in this vital strait have increased, raising concerns about the potential collapse of the existing truce. Washington has taken measures to assist vessels in transit, a step that Tehran views as a violation of the agreed-upon ceasefire.
