Dubai Roads is striving to achieve an ambitious goal of reducing traffic fatalities to 1.7 per 100,000 residents by 2026. This initiative is part of a comprehensive plan to enhance transportation in the emirate, focusing on improving road safety and achieving sustainability in public transport systems.

Comprehensive Transportation Strategy in Dubai

Monah Al-Osimi, Executive Director of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at the Roads and Transport Authority, explained that the authority has developed an integrated roadmap for public transportation in Dubai until 2030. This roadmap outlines future directions aimed at developing sustainable transport systems that support the emirate’s position as a global leader in sustainable development.

Al-Osimi also emphasized the importance of environmental transformation, noting that the plan includes transitioning to infrastructure and transportation modes that align with climate changes, as well as utilizing low-emission public transport options. This approach aims to achieve a circular economy and enhance asset management in an innovative manner.

Transition to High Technology

One of the primary goals for Dubai Roads is to establish autonomous transportation systems, with the authority aiming for these journeys to account for 25% of total movements in Dubai by 2030. The sector also seeks to enhance the use of data and technology in transportation, leading to the development of more efficient and flexible services.

Al-Osimi mentioned the results of the transportation strategy, which includes achieving net-zero emissions for public transport by 2050. This direction indicates the authority’s strong commitment to innovation and global leadership in customer experience (CX).

Authority’s Achievements in Sustainability

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai takes pride in its outstanding achievements in sustainability, having been the first government entity in the Middle East to receive the BS 8001:2017 certification from the British Standards Institute. It is also the first organization in the world to establish a long-term strategy for achieving zero-emission public transport.

These successes reflect Dubai Roads‘ commitment to developing a safe, sustainable, and efficient transportation system, which is a significant step towards achieving the goal of reducing traffic fatalities to 1.7 per 100,000 residents by 2026.

By implementing these strategies and initiatives, Dubai is expected to successfully enhance the safety of its transport systems and achieve its ambitious goals in both traffic and environmental sectors.
