Dubai Energy Council Launches Safety Inspections in Diesel Industry

The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has intensified its inspection campaigns on the diesel sector in Dubai, specifically in the Ras Al Khor area. This is part of its ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and environmental protection while enhancing compliance with local regulations. These campaigns aim to combat violations concerning the handling of this vital fuel. As the regulatory authority overseeing petroleum product transactions in the emirate, the council is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance in the diesel sector.

Collaborative Efforts for Compliance

The inspections are being carried out by a dedicated field inspection team established under Decision No. (1) of 2022 by the Supreme Council of Energy, in cooperation with several relevant government entities, including the General Command of Civil Defense, Dubai Municipality, the Roads and Transport Authority, the Department of Economy and Tourism, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC). This partnership underscores the collective commitment to ensuring that the diesel sector operates within the framework of regulations designed to protect both the community and the environment.

Commitment to Safety Standards

According to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, “These inspection campaigns are an essential part of our ongoing efforts to establish the highest safety and compliance standards across vital energy-related activities in Dubai.” He emphasized that regulating diesel trading is central to these efforts, as the council works collaboratively with stakeholders to address violations that could compromise safety or investor trust. “We are committed to providing an efficient and responsible operational environment that supports sustainable development in Dubai and the UAE,” he added.

Prioritizing Accountability in Diesel Handling

The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy aims to apply stringent safety and security standards in all activities related to diesel, from transportation and storage to distribution. Al Tayer expressed gratitude to all participating government entities and reinforced the importance of thorough regulatory oversight and coordination to ensure compliance with safety standards. “By ensuring compliance with the council’s decisions, we aim to protect individuals, communities, and institutions alike,” he stated. He also highlighted the necessity of effectively implementing policies governing petroleum product transactions in Dubai.

Identifying and Addressing Violations

Ahmed Batti Al Mehairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Head of the Committee for Regulating Petroleum Transactions in Dubai, remarked that ensuring adherence to approved specifications and standards for diesel is one of their top priorities. “These inspection campaigns reflect our steadfast commitment to achieving a fair and sustainable business environment while protecting the rights of consumers and compliant suppliers,” he noted.

Furthermore, Burhan Al Hashimi, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Regulating Petroleum Transactions in Dubai, pointed out that significant violations discovered included the storage and trading of diesel in unlicensed facilities. He emphasized that such practices pose serious risks, including potential leaks that could endanger the soil and groundwater, threatening user safety and the environment. The campaigns specifically target the reduction of unlicensed trading methods, and both the committee and the relevant government entities are determined to take legal action against offenders.
