The restaurant is by renowned Chef Izu and the creators of GAIA, Shanghai Me, and Maison de la Plage
A new culinary jewel, KIGO, is set to open next month in DIFC, Dubai, promising a unique Japanese dining experience. The restaurant, crafted by renowned Chef Izu and his team from Fundamental Hospitality—famed for their successes with GAIA, Shanghai Me, and Maison de la Plage—will be a highlight for food enthusiasts. This exciting addition to Dubai’s vibrant dining scene will feature an omakase-centric menu where guests can indulge in a meticulously curated experience, reflecting the essence of Japanese culinary artistry.

Upon entering KIGO, guests will traverse a stone pathway and minimalist dry garden, leading to an intimate dining area that accommodates only 44 guests. At the heart of the venue is a breathtaking sushi counter, crafted from rare Aji stone sourced from a single mountain in Japan’s Kagawa region—known for its incredible strength and timeless elegance. The atmosphere will be accentuated by artwork from Eiki Kimura, embracing the traditional Rimpa style, fully embodying the spirit of Japanese culture.
The name KIGO draws inspiration from Japanese haiku poetry, symbolizing the beauty and essence of each season. This concept is elegantly reflected in the restaurant’s approach to dining, allowing guests to savor the changing flavors of the seasons.
The thoughtfully crafted menu at KIGO features only the finest ingredients, selected for their cultural significance and peak flavor. Patrons can either sit at the stone sushi counter to witness the chef create personalized omakase dishes or opt for a set kaiseki menu that epitomizes luxury dining. The drink menu will boast an impressive selection of rare sakes unique to the region, including one from the birthplace of Head Chef Akinori Tanigawa, accompanied by premium cocktails that tell their own poetic stories.

Chef Izu has garnered admiration from esteemed figures, including Sheikh Hamdan, the Crown Prince of Dubai, who is known to be a regular at his restaurants. If it’s a preferred choice for the Sheikh, it surely speaks volumes about the quality and experience KIGO aims to offer.
