Human Rights Union Denounces Port Sudan Claims Urges Global Response

The Union for Human Rights Rejects “Port Sudan” Claims and Calls on the International Community to Intensify Efforts to Protect Civilians and End Impunity

In an increasingly tense environment in Sudan, the Union for Human Rights expressed deep concern regarding the statement issued by the so-called “Port Sudan Authority” on August 4, 2025. This statement contained false allegations against the United Arab Emirates, which the Union viewed as a clear attempt to distort the facts and distract from the egregious violations affecting civilians. The Union calls on the international community to intensify efforts to protect civilians and end impunity in light of these unfounded claims.

An Attempt to Mislead Public Opinion

The Union asserted that the statement represents a blatant attempt to mislead public opinion. The claims do not reflect the truth but aim to divert the international community’s attention from the compelling facts and violations that starkly contradict international humanitarian law and human rights. Organizations such as the United Nations have documented these violations, including crimes committed against civilians.

The Role of the UAE in Providing Aid

The Union questioned how false allegations against the UAE could arise at a time when the UAE serves as a cornerstone for regional and international efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Since 2023, Emirati aid to the Sudanese people has significantly increased, totaling over 16.12 billion dirhams, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to its humanitarian obligations.

Rejecting Exploitation for Political Provocation

The Union emphasizes that statements should not be used to justify violations or evade legal and ethical responsibilities. Protecting civilians and halting systematic violations are fundamental issues for achieving peace and stability in Sudan. UNICEF has noted that the situation in Sudan is considered “the largest humanitarian crisis in the world,” requiring an urgent response.

Important Call to the International Community

The Union concluded its statement by reaffirming its full support for the position of the Emirati Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It called on all international parties, including the United Nations, to intensify their efforts to protect civilians and ensure serious accountability for those committing violations. Ending impunity is essential for achieving justice. The current situation in Sudan requires serious steps toward ending the crisis and achieving stability, security, and dignity for all Sudanese people.

In these circumstances, it is crucial for the international community to join forces to ensure the protection of civilians and the necessary justice. The misunderstandings arising from these accusations will only serve to exacerbate humanitarian suffering and perpetuate the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
