New Referral System Launched to Combat Human Trafficking

As part of its ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking, the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking announced the launch of a smart referral system for victims of human trafficking, coinciding with World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. This initiative highlights the UAE’s commitment to protecting victims and enhancing effective responses to this critical social issue.

Launch of the New Website

The announcement of the smart referral system was made during an official ceremony held at the Ministry of Justice in Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of His Excellency Abdullah Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking. Members of the National Committee, representatives of diplomatic missions, and several senior officials from the Ministry of Justice attended the event.

The UAE’s Commitment to Combating Human Trafficking

His Excellency the Minister of Justice emphasized that the UAE prioritizes the fight against human trafficking, stating that the country has been a pioneer in this field since 2006 by joining the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons. National legislation has also been enacted to combat these crimes and establish comprehensive strategies to address them.

National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking 2025 – 2027

During the ceremony, the National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking 2025 – 2027 was also announced, which follows an integrated approach to eliminate the sources of crime, pursue perpetrators, and ensure they do not escape punishment. This plan aims to enhance protective measures and provide a safe environment for victims.

Importance of the Smart Referral System

The smart referral system for combating human trafficking is the first of its kind in the region, relying on artificial intelligence technologies to improve coordination among relevant authorities and analyze data to proactively monitor crimes. This system enables the creation of a digital file for each victim, directing the relevant authorities on all necessary actions, thereby enhancing response speed and opening new avenues for effective protection and intervention.

This system also allows for precise geographic tracking of victims, facilitating information exchange between various entities and improving crisis response efficiency. Through this initiative, the UAE continues its pioneering legacy in combating human trafficking, leaving a positive impact on the lives of victims and society as a whole.
