Sharjah Airport Reports 10% Growth with 9.1 Million Passengers

Sharjah International Airport has reported remarkable growth in its operational performance in the first half of 2025, welcoming 9.1 million passengers, reflecting a solid increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2024. This surge in traveler numbers, alongside a notable uptick in air traffic and cargo handling, signifies the airport’s robust capability to adapt to the rising demand in both regional and international travel.

Passenger Growth Highlights

During the first six months of 2025, Sharjah International Airport recorded a total of 9.1 million passengers, marking a significant rise of 10% from the 8.31 million passengers reported in the first half of 2024. This growth illustrates the increasing popularity of the airport among travelers, supported by new flight routes and enhanced services.

Increased Air Traffic

The increase in the number of travelers has also correlated with a rise in air traffic at the airport. The first half of 2025 saw a total of 54,953 aircraft movements, representing a 4.3% increase compared to the previous year’s figures of 52,695 movements. This upward trend in air traffic further emphasizes the airport’s growing significance in the aviation sector.

Cargo Handling Success

Additionally, cargo operations at Sharjah International Airport experienced record growth of 6.36%, handling a total of 102,427 tons during the same period. This uptick in cargo services indicates the airport’s efficiency and capability in managing increased freight volumes, reflecting its vital role in facilitating trade and commerce within and beyond the region.

Strategic Investments and Future Prospects

Ali Al Madfa, the Chairman of Sharjah International Airport Authority, stated that these positive results are the outcome of ongoing investments aimed at meeting the expectations of travelers in collaboration with various strategic partners. The goal is to position the airport among the top five in the region while enhancing its leadership in providing advanced services and a smooth travel experience. Al Madfa assured that the growth pace is expected to continue, particularly as current expansion projects aim to increase the airport’s capacity to accommodate 25 million passengers annually by the end of 2027.
