Little Rooda Overcomes Health Challenges After 70 Days on Oxygen

The inspiring journey of a little girl, “Rawda,” who triumphed over complex health challenges, has captured the hearts of many. After spending 70 days on oxygen support, the Emirati child, born at just 27 weeks gestation, has demonstrated remarkable resilience. This article delves into the challenges she faced, the relentless efforts of her medical team, and the indomitable spirit of her family during this extraordinary journey towards recovery.

The Arrival of ‘Rawda’

The medical team at Al Qasimi Hospital for Women, Birth, and Children, part of the Emirates Health Services Corporation, successfully saved the life of Rawda, who was born weighing a mere 1180 grams. Immediately after her birth, she was placed in the neonatal intensive care unit and connected to a ventilator due to her struggle with respiratory distress syndrome.

Complex Health Challenges

Rawda faced a series of daunting medical complications, primarily patent ductus arteriosus—a condition that did not respond to medication. This necessitated a highly delicate surgical intervention. After 81 days in care, including intensive oxygen therapy for 70 days, Rawda was finally discharged in good health.

The Role of Medical Professionals

Dr. Mona Khalaf, head of the NICU at the hospital, highlighted the severity of Rawda’s condition. “She was born extremely prematurely at just 27 weeks, requiring immediate care,” she explained. Regular monitoring and advanced medical practices were pivotal in supporting Rawda through her critical early life.

A Proud Mother’s Experience

Rawda’s mother, Hanan Al-Suwaidi, reflected on the arduous journey. “Rawda celebrated her first birthday as one of the preterm babies who received exceptional care in the ICU, and she is currently in excellent health,” she stated. Her gratitude was unmistakable as she acknowledged the dedicated medical team, saying, “I witnessed the immense efforts dedicated every hour within the intensive care unit.”

A Beacon of Hope

Rawda’s story represents an inspiring example of the medical and humanitarian commitment upheld by Emirates Health Services. This commitment ensures that not only do children receive top-tier medical care, but that families also benefit from emotional support during the most challenging times. The holistic approach to healthcare played a vital role in Rawda’s recovery and the family’s journey through this complex process, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive support.

Indeed, after 70 days on oxygen, little Rawda’s victory is a testament to resilience, hope, and the unwavering dedication of those who care for her.
