Yesterday, the National Space Science and Technology Conference 2026 (NSSTC2026) concluded at the United Arab Emirates University, bringing together over 120 researchers and specialists from various educational institutions across the nation. The conference aimed to enhance national capabilities and support academic expansion in space sciences.
Commencement of a Biennial Tradition
Dr. Elias Muhammad Farnini, the chairman of the organising committee, explained that this event is held biannually, rotating between universities in the UAE to create a collective platform for experts and researchers. This year’s edition featured the presentation of 55 scientific papers, organised into morning and afternoon sessions. Notably, graduate students (both master’s and doctoral) contributed over 50% of the total research papers, showcasing the active involvement and empowerment of young student researchers in the scientific realm.
Growing Opportunities in Space Science
Since the establishment of the UAE Space Agency in 2014, the country has firmly established its pivotal and leading role in the global space sector. More than 170 scientific and space institutions have been founded within the UAE, opening vast opportunities for employment and the application of academic outcomes in the growing field of space research.
National Achievements in Space Exploration
Dr. Farnini highlighted the UAE’s consecutive national successes, including the significant Hope Probe project to Mars, which has distinguished the UAE and made a notable scientific impact internationally. The country has surpassed other nations that have had decades of experience in establishing space agencies, making its mark on the global space exploration map.
