In a commendable effort to promote environmental awareness and foster a culture of sustainability, the Sharjah Municipal Affairs Department, in collaboration with Al Dhaid University, has launched an environmental initiative during the “Tree Week” events. This initiative focuses on the planting and distribution of saplings, aimed at encouraging community members and students to embrace sustainable practices that contribute to increasing green areas and preserving natural resources within the emirate.
This initiative aligns with the Municipal Affairs Department’s broader strategy to strengthen partnerships with educational institutions, instilling environmental and social responsibility while supporting efforts to achieve sustainability goals and enhance the quality of life.
His Excellency Sultan Mohammed bin Hwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Municipal Affairs Department, emphasized that “Tree Week” is a significant occasion for enhancing environmental awareness and embedding a culture of sustainability. He noted that the Emirate of Sharjah is committed to initiatives that contribute to expanding green areas and preserving natural resources, in line with the visions and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
Furthermore, Sheikh Engineer Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of the Municipal Affairs Department, highlighted that organizing this event in partnership with Al Dhaid University demonstrates the department’s commitment to strengthening collaborations with educational institutions and involving students in environmental initiatives. He reiterated the importance of planting and distributing saplings in promoting a culture of afforestation and encouraging sustainable practices within the community.
The event featured various activities related to afforestation, along with the distribution of numerous saplings. This approach aims to encourage participants to engage actively in agriculture and to enhance their understanding of the crucial role trees and plants play in maintaining ecological balance. It illustrates the importance of collaboration between the Municipal Affairs Department and Al Dhaid University in implementing environmental and awareness initiatives that promote sustainability and foster positive environmental behaviours among all segments of society.
