In a bid to equip law students with knowledge about potential career paths in the legal field, the University of Sharjah recently hosted the third edition of the Legal Careers Forum. Under the theme “Career Pathways for a Promising Legal Future,” the event served as a platform for students to engage with legal professionals and gain insight into the required skills and experiences for various roles within the legal sector.

Enhancing Legal Education Amidst UAE’s Growth

Speaking at the forum, His Excellency Professor Issam Al Ajmi, Director of the University of Sharjah, highlighted the UAE’s continuous development across economic and security sectors, which is complemented by ongoing efforts to enhance the legal and legislative framework. He emphasised the importance of adapting legal education in higher education institutions to produce qualified legal professionals who possess both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Al Ajmi noted that preparing students for a successful legal career necessitates providing practical training opportunities during their studies, ensuring they acquire the necessary professional skills and experiences to enter the legal workforce upon graduation.

Bridging Academia and Practice

Professor Adnan Ibrahim Sarhan, Dean of the College of Law, underscored the forum’s unique integration of academic learning with practical application. This initiative allows students to explore their professional futures while enhancing their legal knowledge and networking with various legal and professional entities. The event featured participation from esteemed representatives across governmental and private sectors, offering students a broader understanding of available career opportunities and professional pathways within the legal field.

Showcasing Diverse Legal Opportunities

The forum also hosted an exhibition featuring a wide array of organisations, including the Sharjah Police General Command, the Department of Justice, the Legal Department of the Sharjah Government, the Planning and Survey Department, and numerous law firms and legal consultancies. Noteworthy participants included the Public Prosecution of Sharjah, the Federal Tax Authority, and the Dubai Supreme Legislative Committee, among others. These representatives provided students with insights into their respective fields, illustrating the diverse opportunities awaiting graduates.

Ultimately, the Legal Careers Forum played a crucial role in preparing law students for their future careers by fostering connections with industry experts and highlighting the evolving nature of the legal profession in the UAE.
