The Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development has launched the ‘Jiran’ volunteer programme in collaboration with the Emirates Foundation, alongside partnerships with the Abu Dhabi Real Estate Authority and the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). This initiative aims to foster the integration of new residents and strengthen their ties to local communities from the moment they arrive, offering a warm, community-centric welcome that embodies the authentic values of Emirati hospitality. The programme also seeks to familiarise newcomers with the services, opportunities, and facilities available in their residential areas.
Enhancing Quality of Life and Community Cohesion
This initiative is part of the department’s broader efforts to enhance quality of life and reinforce community cohesion amid the ongoing growth of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The emirate continues to attract talents and skills from around the globe, contributing to a supportive community environment that encourages new residents to build positive relationships with their local surroundings and engage actively within society.
Volunteer Recruitment and Training
The programme relies on a network of volunteers, who are recruited and trained through the Emirates Foundation. These volunteers participate in specialised training programmes designed to equip them with the skills needed to provide support and guidance to newcomers. They will answer various queries related to lifestyle and furnish residents with practical information about available government services, educational and healthcare facilities, and local community and recreational venues, including schools, hospitals, banks, and parks.
Community Welcome Meetings and Cultural Materials
In addition to providing information, the programme includes community welcome meetings and introductory materials crafted to highlight local cultural and community identities. New residents will also receive welcome gifts featuring local products, further enhancing their sense of belonging and connection to Abu Dhabi.
