In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, Dubai Police have apprehended an eight-member criminal gang involved in the illicit issuance of driving licences. The police announced this development in a statement released on Friday.
Criminal Activities Exposed
The General Command of Dubai Police collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Roads and Transport Authority to dismantle this group, which specialised in procuring counterfeit driving licences from a neighbouring country. These fraudulent documents were later exchanged for UAE driving licences at a price of 10,000 dirhams per licence.
How the Scheme Worked
According to the police statement, the gang lured individuals seeking Emirati driving licences with promises of obtaining a licence from an unnamed neighbouring country without the need to travel or undergo driving lessons. Under existing agreements, these licences could then allegedly be swapped for Emirati ones without the requirement for training or examinations.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in Dubai to tackle illegal schemes that not only undermine road safety but also violate regulations pertaining to driving qualifications.
