In a proactive effort to enhance construction site safety, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality has launched a comprehensive field campaign combined with an informative workshop focused on demolition safety regulations. This initiative targets professionals in the construction and building sector, including contractors and consultants.
Raising Awareness and Ensuring Compliance
The campaign encompassed several construction sites across Abu Dhabi Island, aiming to elevate awareness regarding the necessary safety measures that must be observed during demolition operations. The municipality seeks to ensure that these sites adhere to established regulations, which is vital for protecting the safety of workers, the surrounding community, and adjacent buildings while minimising potential accidents and risks associated with demolition activities.
Key Focus Areas of the Campaign
Field teams were particularly focused during site visits on the importance of adequately securing work areas to prevent the accidental drop of materials or debris onto nearby structures or pedestrians. The campaign also emphasised the need for fire-fighting equipment to be available on-site, alongside proper training for workers in its effective usage. Adherence to safety protocols during demolition processes was also underscored.
Training and Personal Protective Equipment
Moreover, the campaign included checks to ensure that technicians and equipment operators receive the necessary training from specialised entities. It stressed the obligation to provide all workers with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to safeguard their health and safety during demolition work.
Workshops for Enhanced Understanding
To further reinforce the key messages of the field campaign, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality conducted an educational workshop aimed at the same audience. The workshop addressed the main topics and requirements highlighted during the campaign, showcasing crucial preventive practices, risk assessment methodologies, and the responsibilities of contractors, consultants, and workers. This initiative aims to promote safe and organised demolition operations within the city.
