The UAE’s labour market has experienced remarkable growth over the past five years, with the workforce in the private sector expanding by over 101%. This surge not only highlights the country’s economic resilience but also underscores its ability to attract global investments and talent, as evidenced by a significant 46% increase in the number of companies operating within the region.
UAE’s Participation in Global Workforce Dialogue
Recently, the UAE, represented by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, showcased its commitment to enhancing the attractiveness of its labour market at the Second Doha Dialogue on Labour Mobility. This important event took place in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, on October 5-6, 2023. The UAE’s involvement emphasises its role in fostering collaboration between labour-sending and labour-receiving countries, particularly those within Africa, to establish common priorities.
Strategic Approach to Workforce Governance
The UAE highlighted the significance of the Doha Dialogue in facilitating experience exchange and steering cooperative efforts towards practical solutions. These initiatives aim to strengthen the governance of labour mobility while developing safe, organised, and sustainable migration pathways. To achieve this, the UAE has adopted a comprehensive approach to labour mobility governance, focusing on skills development, rights protection, and the application of technology and artificial intelligence to promote decent work.
Preparing for Future Labour Market Needs
In a bid to proactively address future labour market requirements, the UAE is shifting its approach from merely responding to current skill needs towards anticipating upcoming demands. This forward-thinking strategy has led to the launch of comprehensive skill frameworks supported by artificial intelligence, including the “Emirates Skills Platform.” This platform aims to identify future job opportunities and skills, aligning education and training with the evolving needs of the labour market.
Through these strategic initiatives, the UAE is not only responding to its current economic landscape but also laying the groundwork for a robust and sustainable workforce that meets the challenges of tomorrow.
