Yesterday morning marked a significant milestone in public transportation as the “Union Trains” officially launched their passenger service from Dubai. The inaugural journey departed from the Al Yalayes Station at precisely 6:16 AM, taking aboard passengers from diverse nationalities and age groups, all eager to partake in this historic moment.

The first train arrived at Mohammed bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi at 7:18 AM, completing the journey in approximately 64 minutes. This launch marks a new era of connectivity between Dubai and Abu Dhabi through the national railway network. The second trip departed from Al Yalayes shortly after at 7:14 AM, followed by digital screens at the station displaying upcoming departure times for travelers.
As dawn broke, the atmosphere at Al Yalayes Station buzzed with excitement. Early-morning commuters gathered in anticipation of the first train, capturing photos and videos to commemorate the experience. For many, waiting became an integral part of their journey as they documented their tickets and the displays of train schedules.
Not only regular commuters attended; families, including children and the elderly, also arrived to witness the inaugural service. Many chose to board the first train specifically to be among the first passengers to travel this new route from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.
The moment the train doors closed and the inaugural journey officially commenced transformed the exciting anticipation into the beginning of a new chapter for transit between the two emirates.
The opening of Al Yalayes Station is part of a gradual expansion of the passenger rail network, following the launch of the Abu Dhabi-Fujairah line on June 30. This new addition enhances the route connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi, providing a modern, safe, and reliable mode of transport between the two cities.
Enhanced Daily Travel
The station’s launch coincides with an expanded range of services, offering ten daily trains between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in addition to six trains between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. This schedule provides passengers with enhanced flexibility in choosing their travel times and introduces an important option for travel between the emirates.
The increase in service frequency promotes reliance on the train for daily commutes involving work, education, tourism, and various errands. It also opens broader opportunities for living in one emirate while working or studying in another, allowing for more adaptable transport solutions.
Moreover, Al Yalayes Station’s significance is amplified by its connection to Dubai’s public transport system. A 400-metre pedestrian bridge links the train station to Jumeirah Metro Station, facilitating seamless transfers to the Red Line and allowing passengers to continue their journey across Dubai’s extensive metro network.
A Family Experience
Among the most touching sights on the inaugural morning was the presence of grandmother Suheila and her grandchildren from the Al-Kashwani family. They chose to be among the first to ride the “Union Trains” from Dubai, adorning themselves with the UAE flag to celebrate their participation in this historic day.
The family arrived early at Al Yalayes Station, excitedly taking photographs and capturing their presence at the station before boarding the train. The enthusiasm of the grandchildren was palpable as they awaited the moment of departure.
For this family, the journey was more than just a transfer from Dubai to Abu Dhabi; it became a shared experience to cherish forever, facilitated by grandmother Suheila who wished to instil in her grandchildren the significance of being part of this inaugural event. The day transformed into a memorable family occasion, marking the beginning of a new transportation service within the nation.
