Meeting Highlights and Government Policies
During the meeting, the council discussed a range of government operational topics, focusing on policies that aim to enhance the public services provided to both citizens and residents of the emirate. The council expressed its appreciation for the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, regarding the approval of all housing support applications submitted by citizens to the Housing Department, amounting to a total of 6,700 requests. This initiative reflects the commitment to family stability and aims to foster community cohesion by providing citizens with a dignified living environment conducive to raising future generations within stable and motivating settings.
Employment Initiative at Sharjah International Airport
In alignment with the directives of the Ruler, the council also approved a strategic plan to employ 150 passport officers at Sharjah International Airport. This recruitment drive will be implemented in three phases starting from October. The initiative is in response to the airport’s significant growth, increasing flight numbers, and ongoing expansion projects. It underscores Sharjah’s efforts to provide job opportunities for citizens and to support their professional development.
Launch of “Khutwa” License for University Students
The executive council further endorsed the “Khutwa” license initiative, designed to empower university and higher institute students to engage in economic activities. This programme aims to foster a culture of entrepreneurship among students, encouraging innovation and enabling them to transform their ideas into viable business ventures. The initiative also seeks to enhance student participation in Sharjah’s economy through the creation of new jobs and supporting the establishment of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Report on Economic Development
Additionally, the council reviewed a report by the Department of Statistics and Community Development concerning a comprehensive review of Sharjah’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This project aims to refine GDP estimates, making them more representative of Sharjah’s diverse economy and accurately reflecting its size and the various sectors contributing to its growth. The council emphasised the need for coordination among all relevant authorities to ensure thorough reviews and achieve precise results that represent the emirate’s significant economic stature.
