The Abu Dhabi Centre for Arabic Language has opened registrations for the 2026 grants under its programme “Spotlight on Copyright,” running from 12 to 25 September. This initiative aims to support the translation and digitisation of content while promoting awareness of copyright protections.

The Abu Dhabi Centre for Arabic Language has officially commenced the registration process for its 2026 grants, part of the premier programme “Spotlight on Copyright.” This initiative is designed to enhance the translation of content to and from Arabic, convert books into digital and audio formats, and foster a better understanding of the importance of respecting copyright. This effort aligns with the centre’s ongoing commitment to expanding the reach of Arabic content worldwide and bolstering translation efforts.

Enhancing Collaboration Between Publishers

The programme seeks to cultivate collaboration between Arab and international publishers by financing translation projects. This financial support aims to ease access to both Arabic and global content of higher quality. The 35th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair is expected to witness a surge in grant applications, further strengthening the Centre’s leadership role in establishing a sustainable publishing environment. The programme has evolved into a platform that connects publishers and broadens opportunities for knowledge exchange between languages and cultures. This reflects the UAE’s and Abu Dhabi’s prominent role in safeguarding copyright and publishing rights.

Expanding Arab Content’s Global Reach

The central goal of the programme is to empower Arabic content to penetrate new markets and bolster the publishing and translation ecosystem. Since its inception in 2009, the programme has attracted publishers from across the globe and has achieved notable successes. Over the years, it has facilitated the publication of approximately 1,390 translated works across a wide range of subjects, including children’s literature, science, history, and social sciences. Additionally, the programme has established robust partnerships with leading publishing houses internationally, enhancing the global presence of Arab culture and enriching the Arabic library with high-quality translated content.

Growing Numbers of Applications

Last year’s edition of the programme received 1,633 applications from 113 publishing houses across 29 countries during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2025. A total of 69 grants were approved, with amounts ranging between AED 9,200 and AED 17,400 for each translated book. Furthermore, grants for interactive e-books varied from AED 3,700 to AED 7,400, while funding for audio books ranged from AED 5,500 to AED 7,400.
