In a significant meeting aimed at bolstering international cooperation against drug trafficking and organised crime, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, head of the National Anti-Drug Agency, engaged with General Mohamed Lahrithani, the Director General of Mauritania‘s National Security, along with his accompanying delegation. The discussions centred on enhancing security collaboration and developing coordinated strategies between the two nations in the fight against drug-related crimes and psychoactive substances.

Strengthening Collaborative Efforts

During this pivotal encounter, key frameworks for cooperation were explored, focusing on identifying and combating networks involved in drug smuggling and distribution. Participants shared insights into their respective operational strategies, which are crucial for improving preparedness against transnational crimes—particularly given the rapid advancements in methods employed by organised crime groups in manufacturing, trafficking, and distributing drugs.

Adapting to Emerging Challenges

Sheikh Zayed emphasised the agency’s commitment to enhancing international collaboration and the integration of security efforts as fundamental pillars in the battle against illicit drug trade and psychoactive substances. He highlighted the evolving tactics of these crimes, necessitating ongoing development of technical and operational capabilities, alongside the adoption of modern technologies. He also underscored the importance of intensifying information exchange regarding crime patterns and the operational methods of the involved networks.

Emphasising Regional and Global Partnerships

General Lahrithani of Mauritania acknowledged the critical role of knowledge sharing and the strengthening of regional and international partnerships in addressing these crimes and mitigating their risks. He reiterated the commitment to continuously develop cooperation between the specialised institutions of the two brotherly countries, enhancing efforts to confront organised crime in all its forms.
