The Sharjah Police General Headquarters has announced its comprehensive readiness to welcome the 2026-2027 academic year. This initiative includes an integrated plan focusing on traffic management, community engagement, and media outreach, which involves collaboration with various relevant departments and strategic partners. The main objectives are to enhance the safety and security of students, celebrate their return to school, and ensure smooth traffic flow around educational institutions.
Coordination and Strategy
The announcement was made during a meeting led by Major General Ibrahim Musbah Al Ajal, Director General of the Comprehensive Police Stations Department, attended by Major General Omar Al Ghazal Al Shamsi, Director General of Operations and Security Support, and Brigadier Faisal Bin Nassar, Director General of Community Protection and Safety. The purpose of the meeting was to review work plans, set specific goals, and discuss readiness among various departments and strategic partners to ensure a unified approach that guarantees the safety and happiness of students at the start of the new academic year.
Priorities in Student Safety
Major General Ibrahim Musbah Al Ajal emphasized that student safety is a paramount priority for the Sharjah Police. He highlighted that the plan is based on proactive coordination among different departments and partners to meet the requirements of the school return, thereby providing the highest levels of safety for students, parents, and education staff.
Traffic Management Measures
The plan includes a comprehensive operational system where the Traffic and Patrols Department will intensify its presence in vital areas and roads surrounding schools. This will involve regulating vehicle movement during peak hours to minimize congestion and enhance traffic flow in these zones.
Operational Readiness
The Operations Centre is bolstering its readiness by improving the efficiency of its reporting system and monitoring on-ground developments. It will maintain direct coordination with relevant teams and entities to ensure swift responses to incidents and reports during the school return period.
School Transport Safety
To enhance the safety of school transport, the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department will intensify inspection operations on school buses. This is to ensure their compliance with security and safety standards while concurrent awareness programs for drivers are set to reinforce adherence to safe transport procedures for students.
Community Engagement Initiatives
The Community Security Department will implement a series of field visits to schools, with the aim of welcoming students and engaging them as the academic year begins. These visits will include lectures and awareness programmes that promote safety concepts and positive behaviours, instilling values of responsibility and cooperation among students.
Media Campaign for Safety Awareness
The Security Media Department will launch a campaign titled “Our First Lesson is Safety.” This initiative is part of a broader media plan targeting students, parents, and road users through diverse educational content distributed via Sharjah Police’s digital platforms, alongside media coverage of accompanying programmes and initiatives. The objective is to broaden the reach of safety messages to various community segments and boost awareness of safe practices and behaviours during the academic year.
Strategic Partnerships for Safety
The plan also supports strategic partnerships with the Sharjah Private Education Authority through the “Ma’man” service, which enables school bus drivers and supervisors to send direct alerts to the operations centre in emergency situations with the push of a button, including their precise location. This feature allows for prompt intervention and directs the nearest patrol unit to address the incident, thereby enhancing student safety while commuting to and from school.
Call for Community Cooperation
The Sharjah Police General Headquarters has urged parents, drivers, and road users to cooperate with field teams and adhere to traffic regulations within school zones. They encourage reporting emergencies by calling (999) and non-emergency inquiries via (901). The police further affirmed that student safety is a collective responsibility and that responsible traffic behaviour contributes to creating a safe and stable school environment for everyone.
