As the summer heat intensifies, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (Dubai Residency) has actively engaged in the third edition of the “Fridge of the Community” initiative, organised by the Dubai Community Development Authority and supported by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation. This collaboration also includes partnerships with UAE Water Foundation and the Emirates Food Bank, striving to deliver cold water, juices, and ice creams to workers at their job sites during the scorching summer months.
Impactful Outreach in Dubai
Dubai Residency’s participation facilitated outreach across four different locations within the emirate, distributing over 58,000 packs of cold water, juices, and ice creams. A total of 70 volunteers from the agency contributed 280 hours of service alongside six volunteers from the Dubai Community Development Authority. The initiative benefitted more than 18,000 individuals, primarily targeting workers in the cleaning and construction sectors, delivery drivers, agricultural workers, and those involved in street and road maintenance.
Providing Relief in the Heat
The initiative features refrigerated vehicles that traverse densely populated labour zones in the emirate, offering refreshing drinks to alleviate the impacts of soaring temperatures. This effort not only aims to provide hydration but also supports efforts to prevent heat stress, dehydration, and other health risks linked to high temperatures.
Commitment to Community Values
Lieutenant-General Obaid Muhair bin Surour, Deputy Director-General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, emphasised that Dubai Residency’s involvement in the “Fridge of the Community” initiative reflects the agency’s commitment to translating the values of giving into tangible actions that positively affect the lives of community members.
