Complete Administrative Division of Khor Fakkan to Be Announced Soon

Sharjah 24 – Hager Khamis:

The Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, has announced the completion of the new administrative division plan for the city of Khorfakkan. During a recent telephone interview on the “Direct Line” programme with broadcaster Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, he indicated that the details will be revealed soon.

Expansion Plans for Khorfakkan

His Highness highlighted an ongoing study focused on flattening the summit of “Jebel Al Owain” to construct a residential area that can accommodate a significant number of people. He emphasised the importance of naming locations in a manner that reflects positive connotations.

Revitalising Khorfakkan’s Identity

In his discussion, he compared the planning of Khorfakkan to that of K alba, noting, “Khorfakkan is surrounded by mountains on all sides, from Al Hawami to the sea, with the southern and northern boundaries defined by ‘Al Aqaba’ at the entrance to Al Luluya.” He underscored that all these neighbourhoods are integral parts of Khorfakkan, not merely outskirts.

His Highness pointed out their desire to acknowledge “Al Subayhiya,” a residential area named after an ancient site within its perimeter. He aims to ensure its full recognition as it is alongside parts of Al Luluya and Al Zubara. Additionally, he addressed the peculiarities of naming areas: “On the opposite side of Al Subayhiya is the ‘Al Harai’ neighbourhood, which is known for its snakes; should we agree to name a neighbourhood after ‘snakes’?!” He stressed the aspiration to attribute significant and virtuous names to all locations.

Details on the Development of Surrounding Areas

His Highness elaborated on the geographical significance of the large mountain “Al Owain,” extending from “Victoria School” to “Al Ghazir,” in addition to “Al Ashqar” neighbourhood. He clarified, “Al Ashqar” refers not to the colour but to a type of mountain characterised by its light brown clay. This distinction is crucial as the name represents a quality of the mountains themselves.

He noted that only two neighbourhoods remain to be formally characterised within this area, signifying a lack of further space for development, leading to discussions about ascending to the mountains themselves.

Future Residential Developments

Concluding his remarks, His Highness revealed plans for a new residential district in Khorfakkan, stating, “As the largest mountain in this area is ‘Jebel Al Owain,’ it dominates the landscape. We are currently studying the possibility of flattening the peak to create a residential community, as it will provide ample space for a large population.” He reassured the audience that, similar to the previously announced administrative plans for Kalba, Khorfakkan’s administrative division will also be disclosed in due course.
