In a notable case presented before the Sharjah Misdemeanours Court, a delivery driver has been accused of embezzling a motorcycle entrusted to him for work purposes. This legal action arose after the driver reportedly failed to return the vehicle following a serious traffic accident that left him with significant injuries.
Background of the Case
The motorcycle was issued to the worker by the company as a means to fulfil his job responsibilities. However, according to the company’s complaint, the driver ceased all work-related communication and did not return the motorcycle. This prompted the company to initiate legal proceedings against him for the alleged embezzlement of the entrusted property.
The Driver’s Defence
During the court session, the defendant faced the allegations head-on but firmly denied any wrongdoing. He explained that after the accident, which resulted in a broken arm and a dislocated shoulder, he lost consciousness. This unfortunate circumstance prevented him from returning the motorcycle or notifying his employer at that time.
Post-Accident Communication
Once he regained his health, he reached out to his supervisor to discuss the details of the incident, asserting that he retained the motorcycle due to not receiving any compensation or support for his medical treatment. He stated that he had covered his medical expenses out of his own pocket.
Current Court Proceedings
After reviewing the case documents and listening to both parties, the Sharjah Misdemeanours Court decided to postpone the proceedings to a later date for the verdict to be delivered.
