Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs has inaugurated the Mosque of the Companion Mansour bin Umair in Al Awain, Khorfakkan, next to Al Harai Residential Complex, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the emirate’s religious infrastructure and keep pace with the urban growth taking place in new residential neighbourhoods.
The move aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to build mosques and provide them close to residential communities, making it easier for residents and citizens to perform their rituals with ease and reassurance, while enhancing the quality of religious life across the emirate.
Official attendance and prayers
The inauguration was attended by His Excellency Dr Issa Saif bin Hanzal, Member of the Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of the Department of Islamic Affairs, in the presence of the donor, a number of department directors, branch managers and officials, as well as several residents of the area.
Those attending performed the afternoon prayer at the mosque before touring its facilities and reviewing its architectural and service features.
Strategic location serving a wider area
The mosque is located in Al Awain, alongside Al Harai Residential Complex, and benefits from a vital position that serves residents of the district, in addition to visitors to the surrounding commercial and industrial areas.
Its location helps provide religious services to a wide segment of worshippers, while also supporting the continued urban expansion and population growth in the area.
Capacity and facilities
The mosque was built on a 1,504-square-metre plot and can accommodate around 300 worshippers, men and women. It includes integrated service facilities such as an imam’s residence, ablution areas and bathrooms, offering a comfortable environment for worshippers and reinforcing its religious and community role.
Design reflecting Islamic and local identity
The mosque features an Islamic architectural design blended with a local character. It consists of a ground floor topped by a main dome, and includes a 23-metre-high minaret. The design combines Islamic authenticity with architectural simplicity, reflecting the identity of Sharjah’s mosques while observing the highest standards of quality and sustainability in execution and تجهيزment.
Part of wider expansion plans
The Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs said the mosque’s افتتاح is part of its plans to keep pace with the urban expansion witnessed across the emirate’s cities and regions, and to ensure that houses of worship are provided alongside the growth of residential areas.
It added that the mosque’s prominent location will serve a broad segment of residents of Al Awain and Al Harai Residential Complex, in addition to workers and visitors to the nearby commercial and industrial zones, providing them with a spiritual setting for prayer and worship.
The department also said the mosque will help promote moderation and balance through Friday sermons, religious lessons and Quran memorisation circles, while strengthening Islamic values among younger generations.
It concluded by affirming its continued commitment to implementing strategic plans to build mosques across the emirate’s cities and suburbs, in coordination with the relevant authorities and through studying the needs of new residential areas, in line with Sharjah’s comprehensive development and the mosque’s role as a beacon of faith and knowledge and a cornerstone of stability and social cohesion.
