DEWA Provides 46 Electric Charging Points at the “Shiraa” Building

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) continues to enhance its efforts in sustainable energy by providing 46 electric vehicle charging points at the “Shiraa” building. This project is part of the “Green Charger” initiative, aimed at encouraging the use of electric vehicles and supporting Dubai’s strategy for transitioning to clean energy sources.

Charging Point Details

The charging points at the “Shiraa” building include 40 alternating current (AC) charging stations designated for DEWA employees and 6 direct current (DC) charging stations for official visitors. This number of charging points is part of DEWA’s broader efforts to promote the use of electric vehicles and achieve higher levels of sustainability in Dubai.

Importance of the “Shiraa” Building

The “Shiraa” building is considered one of the largest and smartest positive-energy government buildings in the world, reflecting DEWA’s commitment to its position as a leader in innovation and sustainability. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, emphasized during the building’s inauguration that Dubai continues to set a pioneering example in the transition to sustainability, integrating it into the daily lifestyle of all community members.

Towards Sustainable Mobility

Al Tayer added that DEWA aims to support the vision of wise leadership in enhancing Dubai’s position in sustainable mobility. This aligns with the UAE’s Climate Neutrality 2050 strategy and Dubai’s Green Mobility 2030 strategy, where DEWA seeks to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and enhance overall quality of life, thereby strengthening Dubai’s status as a global model for sustainable cities.

Charging Points in Dubai

According to DEWA, the number of electric vehicle charging points in Dubai reached 2,223 by the end of the first quarter of this year. This figure includes DEWA’s Green Charger stations, as well as those managed by licensed independent charging point operators. The regulatory framework established by DEWA helps organize this sector and define licensing requirements, further enhancing Dubai’s leadership in developing green mobility solutions.

These initiatives embody DEWA’s efforts to encourage sustainable transportation options and reflect its commitment to providing infrastructure that supports the increasing use of electric vehicles.
