Dubai Announces 28 Significant Road Improvements This Summer

In the summer of 2026, Dubai is undergoing an exciting transformation with the implementation of rapid traffic improvements at 28 key locations. These upgrades are designed to enhance road efficiency, safety, and connectivity within the city, particularly around schools and developmental areas. The initiative aims to facilitate smoother traffic flow and accommodate the growing urban landscape of the emirate.

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has begun implementing a package of rapid traffic improvements at 28 locations, which will continue from July to September 2026. This project is part of the authority’s efforts to enhance the city’s road network, improve traffic efficiency, and increase safety levels. The goal is to strengthen connectivity between residential and educational areas, as well as developmental zones, reflecting the rapid urban growth in the emirate.

The work includes rapid traffic improvements at 28 locations, with 4 projects in school areas, 3 in development zones, and 21 scattered locations. These works have been scheduled during the summer holiday to take advantage of reduced traffic volumes and expedite project completion, minimizing impacts on road users. Among the key projects is the expansion of Emirates Road, which will add two new lanes over a distance of 5 km from the Emirate of Sharjah toward Al Amardi Road. This road is a major artery linking Dubai with neighboring emirates and experiences high traffic density during peak periods.

Additionally, the rapid traffic improvements at 28 locations include enhancements at the intersection of Trade Center Road and Marasi Drive. Traffic flow will also be developed on Latifa Bint Hamdan Road near the Al Quoz industrial area. Furthermore, the project focuses on improving traffic flow on Ras Al Khor Road heading toward Al Khail Road. Through these improvements, the project aims to elevate traffic efficiency in these vital areas.

The projects will also include enhancements near residential areas, such as adding a new lane at the intersection of Al Khawaneej Road and Al Amardi Road. Additionally, the right turn on Ras Al Khor Road toward Dubai-Al Ain Road will be expanded from one lane to two. Furthermore, a traffic lane will be widened on Algeria Street in the Al Mizhar Fourth area, which will help increase capacity and reduce waiting times, thereby improving vehicle flow.

In preparation for the new academic year and to enhance traffic safety around educational institutions, the authority will create new parking facilities for the Zayed Educational Complex in the Al Mizhar Second area, as well as additional parking for Horizon International School in the Umm Al Sheif area. These steps contribute to enhancing traffic safety and providing a better educational environment for students.
