Caller Contacts Sharjah Police to Order “Pizza”—A Mysterious Call Saves Woman from Husband’s Threat

In a unique humanitarian incident, Sharjah Police revealed how an employee at the Operations Center managed to save a foreign woman who was threatened by her husband through her unconventional call to emergency services. This incident highlights the woman’s cleverness in using a “pizza” order as a means of escape from a dangerous situation, reflecting the importance of effective training received by security center staff.

Details of the Mysterious Call

Captain Majid Al-Bass, Director of the Operations Center at Sharjah Police, recounted the details of this incident during his appearance on the program “Aman Ya Biladi.” The police received a call from a foreign woman requesting “pizza.” When the employee, named Khamis, informed her that she was speaking to the police and not a restaurant, she confirmed that she was aware of that. Nevertheless, she continued to place her order discreetly.

The employee noticed that the caller might be in danger, so he handled the call smartly and calmly, showing interest in her conversation as if she were genuinely ordering food. He inquired about the number of pizza slices and drinks she wanted, trying to gather information from her responses to assess the situation.

Immediate Intervention to Protect the Woman

After noticing the dangerous situation, the employee immediately informed the relevant authorities and coordinated with the appropriate agencies. The caller’s location was identified, and specialized teams were dispatched to the scene. The field assessment revealed that the woman was facing a genuine threat from her husband, who was in an unstable state. This necessitated immediate action to protect her.

This incident embodies the importance of the training undergone by Operations Center staff, which includes handling various types of unconventional reports. It also highlights the need to recognize symbolic methods of seeking help, such as ordering food, which has proven effective worldwide.

The Role of the Operations Center in a Diverse Community

Captain Majid Al-Bass emphasized that the diversity of nationalities and cultures in the country requires Operations Center staff to develop communication skills and understand different behavioral patterns. Some callers may rely on common practices from their home countries, necessitating that employees quickly comprehend their situations to ensure timely assistance.

The Sharjah Police Operations Center serves as the primary hub for managing reports and security incidents 24/7, operating through three main departments: emergency operations via 999, non-urgent reports via 901, and the security surveillance center.

The Increasing Importance of Emergency Lines

Captain Majid Al-Bass urged the public to distinguish between the numbers 999 and 901. The number 999 is designated for emergencies requiring immediate intervention, such as dispatching police patrols or ambulances. In contrast, 901 is reserved for inquiries and services that do not require urgent intervention. Using emergency lines for simple inquiries can negatively impact the emergency response for those in dire need of assistance.

The Sharjah Police Operations Center remains the heartbeat of the security system in the emirate, continuously enhancing its capabilities to ensure rapid response and bolster safety and security in the community.
