Abu Dhabi Ports Enhances Portfolio with Dh3.1 Billion Purchase

Abu Dhabi Ports, the gateway of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to the world of maritime trade, has taken a significant step in its journey by signing a 3.1 billion dirham acquisition agreement for “CLI,” one of the leading operators of bulk agricultural cargo terminals in Brazil. This strategic move marks Abu Dhabi Ports’ first entry into the South American market, reflecting its ambition to expand its global presence and enhance its footprint in the agricultural food market.

Deal Details

Today, Abu Dhabi Ports Group announced its acquisition of “CLI” in a deal valued at 3.1 billion dirhams, approximately 835 million dollars. This step, approved by the current owners of the company, “Macquarie Asset Management” and “IG4 Capital,” aims to enhance the group’s capacity to expand in the agricultural cargo sector.

Through this acquisition, Abu Dhabi Ports seeks to access new markets and broaden its operations. “CLI” is headquartered in São Paulo and manages two key terminals for exporting bulk agricultural cargo: “CLI Sol” at the Port of Santos and “CLI Norte” at the Port of Itacoatiara. This acquisition represents a significant leap that reflects the group’s ambitious vision for expansion into new markets.

Importance of the Strategic Location

The two terminals operated by “CLI” are among the most vital linking points between global markets and agricultural production in Brazil, which is considered one of the largest sources of sugar and grains in the world. This connection enhances Abu Dhabi Ports’ ability to achieve sustainable growth in agricultural markets, with a focus on strengthening the logistics sector and value-added services.

Moreover, “CLI’s” presence in the strategic region of the Amazon basin opens the door to further expansion opportunities, reinforcing Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s strategies for exploring new markets and collaborating in increasingly commercial contexts.

Future Development and New Plans

As part of its new strategy, Abu Dhabi Ports Group plans to enhance its partnerships in South America and aims to establish a trade hub connecting the East and West, paving the way for strengthened economic ties with other countries, including the Indian subcontinent, East Africa, and Southeast Asia.

Commenting on this acquisition, Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, expressed pride in this step, stating: “Our entry into Latin American markets marks a milestone in our journey and strengthens our expansion strategy.”

Abu Dhabi Ports is preparing to continue achieving successes and investing in new projects worldwide, including previous partnerships with global companies in various logistics and transportation-related fields. These integrated strategies will enhance the group’s position and ensure its leading status in the bulk agricultural cargo sectors.
