The Gulf Cooperation Council Stands in Solidarity with Bahrain in Security Protection Measures
In a move that reflects regional support, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) announced its solidarity with Bahrain in all measures taken to enhance and protect its security and stability. This action underscores the council’s commitment to supporting the stability of its member states, particularly concerning Bahrain’s national security.
Emphasis on Security and Stability
The Secretary-General of the GCC, Jasem Al-Budaiwi, stated in a press release that the council “stands in solidarity with Bahrain in all sovereign measures it takes to enhance and protect the security of its people and its stability.” Al-Budaiwi emphasized that “the security of the Kingdom of Bahrain is of utmost priority to the member states and an integral part of the security and stability of the Gulf Cooperation Council.” This affirmation reflects a unified Gulf vision in addressing the security challenges facing the region.
Iranian Threats and External Interventions
On April 27, Bahrain revoked the citizenship of 69 individuals based on allegations of their sympathy for Iranian hostile activities. This step provoked strong reactions from Iran, with Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei condemning the decisions and labeling them a “flagrant violation of human rights.”
Baghaei remarked that the Bahraini measures represent a “discriminatory approach,” noting that revoking citizenship violates principles of sovereignty. This occurred amid escalating tensions between Bahrain and Iran, particularly as events in the region unfold.
Bahrain’s Positions and Calls for Enhanced Measures
In response to the criticism, the Bahraini Foreign Ministry firmly rejected the statements issued by Iran, considering them blatant interference in the kingdom’s affairs. The statement asserted that Bahrain maintains its right to take whatever actions it deems appropriate to protect its security and stability.
In previous remarks, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain called for additional measures against those who support Iranian aggression, reflecting the kingdom’s commitment to safeguarding its national security amid complex economic and political conditions.
