49.26% Increase in Energy Production Efficiency in Dubai by 2025
Dubai is on the brink of a significant milestone in energy production, with a projected 49.26% increase in energy production efficiency by 2025. This achievement reflects the ongoing commitment of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to enhance operational performance and reduce consumption levels. The data outlined in DEWA’s integrated report promises a sustainable future, paving the way for environmental benefits and economic growth, bolstering Dubai’s vision as a global leader in energy innovation.
Impressive Metrics Showcase Progress
DEWA has reported remarkable outcomes, including overall energy production efficiency reaching 49.26% in 2025. This increase is attributed to continuous improvements in plant performance and operational practices. Furthermore, there was a significant reduction in additional energy consumption of 281,831 megawatt-hours in 2025 compared to 2006, marking a notable leap forward.
Environmental and Economic Benefits
The report highlights that total carbon emissions were reduced by 13.10 million tons of CO2 in 2025, driven by enhanced production efficiency and a decrease in internal energy consumption. These efforts have led to cumulative fuel savings of 245,676,104 British thermal units (MMBtu) when compared to levels from 2006. DEWA’s commitment to improving energy production efficiency is clear, focusing not only on operational excellence but also on environmental sustainability.
Comprehensive Energy Management System
To achieve these ambitious goals, DEWA has implemented a comprehensive energy management system across its operations. This system encompasses power generation plants, distribution facilities, administrative buildings, and the entire fleet of DEWA, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency. Such a system plays a crucial role in monitoring energy performance, supporting data-driven decision-making, and identifying consumption-saving opportunities, ultimately fortifying environmental sustainability and yielding economic benefits.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
DEWA’s achievements underline its steadfast commitment to environmental protection and adherence to international sustainability frameworks. The authority aims to create long-term value for stakeholders while establishing a resilient, high-efficiency, and sustainable energy production system. By prioritizing energy and water efficiency, alongside resource conservation, DEWA supports the United Arab Emirates’ push towards a green economy and fulfills its national obligations in combating climate change as outlined in the Paris Agreement and Dubai’s digital initiatives.
Evaluating Energy Consumption Across Facilities
As part of its ongoing dedication to energy efficiency, DEWA conducted a detailed assessment of additional energy consumption across various facilities, including the Jebel Ali Power and Water Production Complex, the Al Aweer Power Plant, and the first phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This evaluation is a testament to DEWA’s commitment to optimizing resource use and enhancing energy efficiency across its operations.
