Dubai Achieves the Lowest Power Outage Duration in the World
In a remarkable achievement that underscores its status as a leader in innovation and technology, Dubai has recorded the lowest power outage duration globally, with an average outage of just 0.82 minutes per subscriber annually in 2025. This significant progress is attributed to the implementation of smart grids and artificial intelligence, reflecting the city’s commitment to delivering high-quality services and energy efficiency on a global scale.
Record Numbers Reflect Efficiency
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, announced this unique achievement, which marks a 13% improvement compared to the previous year. The average power outage duration was equivalent to 49 seconds per subscriber, positioning Dubai at the forefront of cities providing reliable electrical services. The authority has seen a notable improvement in performance indicators, reducing the average outage duration from 6.88 minutes in 2012 to 0.82 minutes in 2025, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing service reliability.
Future Investments Supporting Sustainability
As part of its infrastructure development and enhancement, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority plans to invest approximately 7 billion dirhams in developing the smart grid by 2035. This automated network offers innovative features that improve energy transmission efficiency and reduce outages, in addition to enhancing electrical load management. These initiatives align with the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which aims to elevate Dubai’s status as one of the top three economic cities in the world.
Artificial Intelligence as a Key Element
A key tool utilized by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is artificial intelligence systems, implemented in programs such as the “Automated Smart Grid Restoration System.” This system, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, provides 24/7 management and monitoring without human intervention, enabling the identification, isolation, and rapid restoration of services with remarkable efficiency. This innovation represents a significant step toward achieving sustainability and ensuring high reliability levels in electricity services.
By achieving the lowest power outage duration in the world, Dubai presents an accomplishment that every resident can take pride in, enhancing the city’s image as a global hub for innovation and sustainability in energy services. This success also reflects the authority’s commitment to delivering services that meet the highest international standards and fosters a shift toward a future linked to technology and sustainable environmental practices.
