In a significant move aimed at empowering agricultural entrepreneurs, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr. Amina bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak, has officially launched the “Young Farmer Seal” initiative. This initiative seeks to enhance the role of young individuals in reshaping the national food security framework through innovative minds and hands. The announcement was made during the third day dedicated to “Families and Female Farmers” at the second “Emirati Agricultural Conference and Exhibition 2026” held in Al Ain, with the presence of the Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al-Niyadi.
Objective of the Young Farmer Seal Initiative
The “Young Farmer Seal” aims to provide an “Approved Seal” certification for projects developed by Emiratis using sustainable practices. This initiative not only contributes to building a strong national agricultural identity but also bolsters consumer confidence in local products, transforming youth projects into competitive and growth-oriented entrepreneurial ventures.
Four Fundamental Pillars
The initiative revolves around four main pillars: first, showcasing successful youth models in the agricultural sector as inspiring local and international stories; second, encouraging the adoption of modern technologies and sustainable agricultural practices that conserve resources; third, increasing consumer trust in locally produced goods by youth; and finally, providing the necessary technical and professional support to ensure that young entrepreneurs can manage their projects sustainably.
Eligibility and Criteria
The initiative is open to Emirati youth under 35 years, including those who own small and medium farms, livestock breeders, beekeepers, and entrepreneurs in the food processing sectors. Applicants must ensure that their projects are entirely owned and operated by young individuals, connected to actual agricultural production or food manufacturing, while complying with local regulations and passing a technical assessment conducted by experts to ensure product quality and sustainability.
Structured Certification System
The initiative has implemented a tiered certification system that accommodates the journey of young farmers. The seal is divided into three categories reflecting varying levels of expertise and distinction. Category A, the “Green Seal,” targets beginners with less than two years of experience, focusing on clear operational plans. Category B, the “Orange Seal,” is for those with three to four years of experience who have demonstrated the ability to apply good agricultural practices effectively. Finally, Category C, the “Red Seal,” is designated for those with over five years of experience, requiring evidence of innovation in technical practices and a professional marketing plan to ensure broad consumer reach.
The launch of the “Young Farmer Seal” underscores the UAE’s commitment to developing a comprehensive food security system that incorporates cutting-edge global technologies while preparing a capable Emirati youth generation. This initiative aims to transform agricultural challenges and environmental concerns into significant investment opportunities and national success stories that can inspire the world.
Dr. Amina bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak commended the exceptional and continuous efforts made by the “Emirati Youth Council for Agriculture” in formulating and advancing this pioneering initiative, asserting that the “Young Farmer Seal” represents a deep bond of trust between the state and the innovative youth. The seal serves as a bridge of reliability connecting young farmers to consumers and embodies the aspirations of the leadership to empower national youth.
“This initiative will play a crucial role in enhancing the competitiveness of Emirati products and facilitating direct access to major sales outlets and cooperatives, opening vast economic possibilities for citizen farmers,” she added, emphasizing the overarching goal of transforming young individuals from mere producers into entrepreneurial leaders capable of driving significant economic success stories in the global market.
Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al-Niyadi praised the ministry’s efforts in highlighting the qualitative developments in various agricultural sectors in the UAE. He noted the comprehensive participation reflected in the exhibition from governmental, academic, and producer sectors, aligning with the leadership’s aspirations to bolster the national food security system and ensure agricultural sustainability.
Emphasizing the importance of fostering competition and creativity across diverse agricultural fields, he highlighted the council’s commitment to enhancing youth participation in vital sectors, consistent with the nation’s vision of empowering young individuals to be active partners in developing the agriculture and food security framework. By providing the necessary support and resources, the initiative aims to bolster the competitiveness of local products and facilitate higher levels of self-sufficiency.
“I am proud that our youth benefit from pioneering initiatives and tools that contribute to enhancing their roles in this vital sector,” he stated, reinforcing the vision set forth by the “Young Farmer Seal” to cultivate a thriving agricultural economy through youthful innovation and dedication.
