Accessible Non-Emergency Medical Transport Services for Seniors Launched

Providing non-emergency medical transportation services for senior citizens free of charge is a significant step towards enhancing their overall well-being in the UAE. As the nation prioritizes the health of its elderly population, initiatives such as those offered by the National Ambulance Service play a critical role in ensuring that seniors receive the medical care they need without any financial burden. In this article, we explore the recent affirmations from government officials regarding these vital services aimed at supporting senior citizens in accessing healthcare facilities.

Government Commitment to Senior Citizens

The Minister of Health and Community Protection, Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayigh, underscored the UAE government’s deep commitment to the welfare of senior citizens. He emphasized that high-quality, integrated healthcare services are essential for enhancing their quality of life. During a session of the Federal National Council, Al Sayigh highlighted the impact of the National Ambulance initiative in providing non-emergency medical transportation services for senior citizens free of charge.

Organized Community Initiative

Responding to a parliamentary question, Al Sayigh noted that the National Ambulance Service has implemented this non-emergency transportation service as part of an organized community initiative. Seniors can book this service via the National Ambulance’s online platform or through a phone call. Additionally, for those who require the service but don’t qualify for the free offer, paid options are available for the wider community. The Minister reiterated the ministry’s dedication to expanding healthcare services to meet the diverse needs of all societal groups.

Proposals for Future Improvements

Members of the Federal National Council brought forth several proposals to enhance the transportation services for senior citizens. Suggestions included creating dedicated pathways for ambulances, exploring partnerships with health insurance companies to offer transportation services, and developing a timeline to increase the number of ambulances in line with the growing population and the increasing number of senior citizens. They also highlighted the importance of better coordination between hospitals during transportation operations.

Response to Proposals

In response to these recommendations, the Minister acknowledged their significance and stated that they deserve thorough consideration. He promised to engage with the Federal National Council to review these proposals in detail, recognizing their importance to the community, particularly for the needs of senior citizens and their families. The focus remains on collaborative efforts to implement these suggestions promptly.

Prioritizing Health Services for Seniors

Dr. Youssef Mohammed Al Serkal, Director-General of the Emirates Health Services Corporation, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to prioritizing services for senior citizens. He detailed the extensive network of healthcare facilities available across the northern Emirates, boasting a total of 20 rehabilitation facilities that have provided 85,000 physical therapy and rehabilitation sessions—marking a 6% increase compared to 2024. This ongoing development highlights the continued growth and responsiveness of health services.

During a Federal National Council session, Al Serkal addressed concerns regarding the inadequacy of rehabilitation centers for seniors in the northern Emirates. He announced the addition of three priority health centers, contributing 4,000 rehabilitation sessions, which represents a 21% increase from 2024. Moreover, the establishment of medical programs and virtual clinics was noted, along with the accreditation of all health institutions, ensuring improved healthcare delivery.

As the UAE takes steps towards providing non-emergency medical transportation services for senior citizens free of charge, the focus on health and well-being remains at the forefront of national priorities. These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to ensuring that the elderly receive the care and respect they deserve in their golden years.
