The emirate of Fujairah has implemented effective measures to manage heavy truck traffic by establishing dedicated parking areas across various industrial zones. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance transportation flow while also separating heavy transport activities from residential areas and public roads. With ongoing industrial growth in the region, a new project has been initiated to create parking spaces for trucks, with a total capacity of up to 275 vehicles distributed across eight industrial locations, focusing on efficiently organizing truck movement.
Strategic Planning for Truck Management
According to Ali Qassem, the Director General of the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, the project is based on traffic planning that considers the unique usage of industrial zones. Its objective is to systematically manage truck movements, reducing congestion while enhancing safety levels. He emphasized that the distribution of parking across multiple locations offers flexibility to accommodate increasing shipping activities.
Convenient Location of Parking Areas
The selected parking sites are strategically located near industrial areas that provide essential services for drivers and vehicles, simplifying the stopping and loading processes without disrupting the flow of public roads. The parking facilities include the Thoban area, capable of housing 50 trucks; the Seji area with a capacity of 20 trucks; the Hil area for 25 trucks; and Al Rayamah with space for 15 trucks. Notably, the Habhab site stands out as the largest, accommodating 100 trucks, while the Masafi and Al Twayeen sites each can hold 25 trucks, and the Al Burraq site can accommodate 15 trucks. This thoughtful distribution reflects careful planning to meet the needs of various industrial regions.
Enhanced Facilities for Drivers
Qassem noted that the initiative goes beyond just providing parking spaces; it also includes essential service facilities for drivers. These facilities feature restrooms and high-efficiency lighting systems that ensure visibility during nighttime, along with organized entry and exit gates that facilitate smooth movement within the parking lots. The design of the parking areas takes into account safe distances between trucks, thereby improving safety standards and reducing risks. This is part of a comprehensive project aimed at enhancing truck parking in industrial zones.
Overall Impact on Traffic Management
He affirmed that the execution of this project aligns with a broader strategy to regulate traffic flow, positively impacting the quality of life in the area. The new parking facilities have significantly reduced truck congestion on public roads and helped distance them from residential zones, further enhancing the community’s living environment.
