The UAE Welcomes the European Parliament‘s Decision on Sudan

In a move that reflects international commitment to ending the conflict in Sudan, the UAE welcomed the European Parliament’s decision regarding Sudan. This decision comes at a critical time to support efforts aimed at ending the civil war in the country. The UAE has played an active role in these efforts, reaffirming its ongoing support for Sudan and its people.

The UAE’s Commitment to Prioritizing Peace

Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State and UAE Ambassador to the European Union, expressed her appreciation for the decision, which reflects the UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting efforts to end the civil war. She emphasized the importance of working with regional and international partners to achieve security, stability, and sustainable development in Sudan. This international cooperation is not only urgent but also essential for ensuring a better future for the Sudanese people.

The Importance of the European Parliament’s Decision

Nusseibeh noted that the European decision reflects support for the Quadruple Mediation Group, considered an effective “mediation format” for addressing the conflict. She viewed the joint statement from the Quadruple Group as a historic step aimed at ending the fighting and achieving a comprehensive ceasefire. The statement emphasized that establishing a civilian government independent of the warring parties is the only option for implementing the necessary reforms in Sudan, free from the negative influences of extremist groups.

A Call to End Violence and Provide Humanitarian Aid

Nusseibeh stressed the need to condemn the serious violations committed by both warring parties, namely the Rapid Support Forces and the Port Sudan Authority. Their actions have led to immense suffering for the Sudanese people and have negatively impacted their future. Therefore, the need for an immediate end to the war and acts of violence is urgent.

She also reaffirmed the UAE’s firm position calling for an unconditional ceasefire and ensuring the unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid through all available routes. The UAE has been committed to humanitarian efforts, reflecting its strong dedication to providing relief support to the Sudanese people.

UAE Aid to Sudan

According to a report from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the UAE has provided $784 million in humanitarian aid, making it the second-largest donor to Sudan after the United States and one of the most generous countries in aid during 2025. This position reflects the UAE’s ongoing efforts to support the Sudanese people during these challenging times.
