This project aims to enhance trade movement and rehabilitate the port into a modern and efficient logistics hub, reflecting DP World’s commitment to boosting international trade and the efficiency of logistics services in the region.

Details of the Launch

DP World announced that it has officially started operations at the Port of Tartus following the official handover from the Syrian General Authority for Land and Maritime Ports. The company welcomed the entry of the new port tug, named “Al-Fath,” into service, which is considered a pivotal moment in the project.

Investments and Future Projects

The group stated in a press release that this step represents a key milestone within the framework of the DP World concession agreement at the Port of Tartus, which extends for a decade. An investment estimated at 3 billion AED (800 million USD) has been allocated, making it one of the largest foreign investments in the logistics services sector in Syria in recent years, reflecting confidence in Syria’s capacity for recovery and economic growth.

Improving Port Services

Fahd Al-Banna, CEO of DP World Tartus, noted that the goal is to transform the Port of Tartus into a world-class maritime gateway. He emphasized the importance of close collaboration with the Syrian government and the General Authority for Land and Maritime Ports to apply DP World’s expertise in designing a modern port that enhances trade and strengthens Tartus’s position as a major commercial hub in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Port Development Plans

DP World has indicated that it is currently conducting a comprehensive assessment of the port’s infrastructure, including equipment, docks, and storage capabilities. The initial phase continues with technical surveys and operational studies to develop detailed design plans for the port’s development. According to the plan, the work will include improving channels, basins, and docks, as well as replacing old equipment with new specialized additions to meet the growing demand.

Technology and Human Resources

DP World will also introduce its digital platforms to enhance operational efficiency and transparency, focusing on employee training and process improvements to meet global benchmark times. The company places the highest safety standards as a top priority, including comprehensive safety audits and specialized training programs.

Medium-term plans include updating infrastructure, expanding handling and storage capabilities, and investing in advanced technologies, which will enhance the port’s ability to meet market needs efficiently.
