Space 42 Launches Trio of Cutting-Edge Radar Satellites

In a significant advancement for earth observation technology, Space 42 has successfully launched three new radar satellites, marking a notable expansion of its capabilities. Partnering with Ice Eye, a leader in radar satellite operations, the new additions are part of the Foresight constellation designed for precise geospatial monitoring. This latest launch reaffirms Space 42’s commitment to innovation and positions it firmly in the global satellite landscape.

Successful Launch Details

Space 42, in collaboration with the radar satellite operations company Ice Eye, successfully launched three new radar satellites into low Earth orbit as part of the Foresight constellation for earth observation: Foresight-3, Foresight-4, and Foresight-5. The satellites were launched via Exolaunch during the Pandwagon-4 mission in partnership with SpaceX from Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA. Communication with the spacecraft has been confirmed, and initial routine operations have begun.

The Purpose of the Foresight Constellation

The Foresight constellation combines radar satellite imagery with the GIQ data analysis center of Space 42, aiming to accelerate the provision of accurate geospatial data to support decision-makers in governments, industrial sectors, and partners around the world. The first satellite of the constellation was launched in August 2024, followed by the launch of the second satellite in January 2025.

Comment from Space 42 Leadership

On this occasion, Hassan Al-Hosani, CEO of Smart Solutions at Space 42, stated that expanding the Foresight constellation to five satellites embodies a commitment to leadership in space innovation. He also emphasized the ability to develop a comprehensive space system that can expand globally from Abu Dhabi. He added, “By combining national capabilities with international partnerships, in collaboration with Ice Eye, we provide high-value analytical data that supports various sectors and transcends geographical boundaries.”

A Milestone for Earth Observation

This pivotal step follows the success of Space 42 in launching the satellites Foresight-1 and Foresight-2, which have entered orbit. The addition of three new radar satellites marks a crucial milestone in the company’s earth observation program and an important step toward the planned completion of the constellation by 2027. This expansion also enhances data accuracy and supports the decision-making process.

Manufacturing and Testing

It is noteworthy that the satellites were manufactured in Finland and then transported to Abu Dhabi, where they were tested and assembled for the first time at the assembly, integration, and testing facility of Space 42’s space systems before being launched from the United States. With this step, the Foresight constellation for earth observation establishes the country’s position among the elite of about 20 nations worldwide that possess operational radar satellites in space.
