Abu Dhabi Energy Expands “Future Leaders” Initiative to Raise Awareness on Consumption Efficiency
The Emirate of Abu Dhabi is launching the “Future Leaders” initiative, created by the Department of Energy in collaboration with the Department of Education and Knowledge. This initiative aims to enhance awareness of energy and water consumption efficiency among school students. Approximately 10,000 students in the 11th and 12th grades will benefit, reflecting Abu Dhabi’s commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental awareness among future generations.
Raising Awareness Among Students
Through the initiative, Abu Dhabi Energy aims to educate around 10,000 students on the importance of conserving energy and water. This will be accomplished through interactive sessions held in various schools across the emirate, helping students understand how to preserve natural resources. The sessions will also encourage the adoption of new behaviors that promote responsible use of energy and water in their homes and workplaces.
Enhancing Critical Thinking Skills
The initiative also emphasizes enhancing critical thinking and entrepreneurship skills among students. Encouraging them to present innovative ideas that contribute to building a more sustainable future is a core objective of the “Future Leaders” initiative. By providing these skills, Abu Dhabi Energy hopes to prepare a generation capable of addressing environmental challenges through innovation.
Community Engagement and Achieving Goals
According to Engineer Ahmed Al-Falasi, Executive Director of the Energy Efficiency Sector at the Department of Energy, “the initiative embodies the commitment to enhancing community awareness among the rising generations.” He noted that the goal is not only to encourage consumption efficiency but also to instill a culture of responsible use of natural resources. The initiative aims to achieve a tangible community impact that extends beyond immediate savings in consumption.
Achievements and Innovative Events
By the end of September 2025, the “Future Leaders” initiative had reached over 6,100 students in 76 schools. To expand its impact, a student hackathon was organized, allowing school teams to present their innovative projects that promote energy and water consumption efficiency. This event reflects the shift towards transforming theoretical concepts into practical applications in students’ daily lives.
The “Future Leaders” initiative is an integral part of Abu Dhabi’s Vision 2030, aiming to build a future based on responsible consumption of energy and water, demonstrating the department’s commitment to achieving true sustainability. Through this initiative, Abu Dhabi hopes to shape a generation of responsible leaders who contribute to positive change in the community.
