Revolutionary Digital Platform Redefines Recycling Sector

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has officially launched the “Transform” platform, marking the debut of the first integrated national digital marketplace for trading and exchanging recyclable materials in the UAE. This innovative initiative, developed in collaboration with “Bee’ah,” represents a transformative step for federal governmental bodies for the years 2024-2025, aligning with the country’s vision to lead in global competitiveness. As a key effort within the government’s strategies, the launch of the “Transform” platform aims to enhance the circular economy and comprehensive waste management, thereby generating new economic value from resources and supporting sustainable development goals.

A Step Towards Economic Sustainability

The “Transform” platform is designed to support the UAE government’s ambition to become a global hub for the new economy over the next decade, in line with the “We Are the UAE 2031” vision. This vision underscores the need for impactful and sustained efforts that reflect the country’s aspirations and positively influence various sectors. The announcement came during a special event held at Bee’ah’s headquarters in Sharjah, coinciding with the fourth meeting of the “Emirates Council for Environmental and Municipal Work.” A strategic partnership was signed between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and Bee’ah in the presence of key leaders from both organizations.

Innovative Solutions for Waste Management

Dr. Aminah Abdallah Al-Dhahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, stated, “The launch of the ‘Transform’ platform embodies our leadership’s vision in converting environmental challenges into promising economic and developmental opportunities. We are transitioning waste management from its traditional concept into a new economic realm, creating added value from our resources and supporting innovative and sustainable business models that align with our national ambitions and the ‘We Are the UAE 2031’ vision.” She added that the platform serves as a comprehensive system aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in the recycling materials market.

Collaboration and Training for Success

Al-Dhahak emphasized, “Our cooperation with Bee’ah on this project is a model of effective partnership between the public and private sectors, showcasing the integrated national collaboration we seek to ensure a sustainable future across all sectors. We are confident that ‘Transform’ will be a driving force in solidifying the UAE’s position as a leading global hub for a new and sustainable economy.” Echoing this sentiment, Khaled Al-Huraimel, Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of Bee’ah, remarked, “The ‘Transform’ platform represents a qualitative leap towards a future-ready circular economy in the UAE, and we are proud to be part of this journey in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.”

Technological Advancements in Recycling

Aliya Al-Hermoudi, Assistant Undersecretary for Sustainable Communities at the Ministry, pointed out that “Transform” exemplifies practical efforts under the government’s “Zero Bureaucracy” initiative. The platform facilitates business operations in the waste management sector by enabling the ministry to eliminate barriers and promote direct communication within a secure and integrated network. Instead of cumbersome traditional processes, “Transform” offers a direct digital channel that connects producers of recyclable materials with buyers, significantly reducing time and effort while enhancing commercial efficiency.

Through the collaboration between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and Bee’ah, local authorities responsible for waste management will coordinate to streamline the exchange of recyclable materials across different emirates. Additionally, efforts will focus on raising awareness and enhancing platform usage, with training and technical support provided to users. The new platform employs advanced technology from “Re.Life,” a subsidiary of Bee’ah specializing in trading and exchanging recyclable materials.

“Transform” ensures transparent and fair trading operations for various categories of recyclable materials, including metals, plastics, paper, wood, electronic waste, glass, and rubber. The platform offers diverse trading options, allowing buyers and sellers to engage in timed auctions, partial bids, instant selling, and immediate purchasing, ensuring fair pricing and equal opportunities for all parties involved. By directly connecting organizations and companies, the platform eliminates the need for intermediaries, thus enhancing transaction efficiency. Users are required to possess a valid commercial license to engage in trading operations.

Recently, the Emirates Council for Environmental and Municipal Work held its fourth meeting of 2025, chaired by Dr. Al-Dhahak. The council discussed several critical issues aimed at enhancing collaborative efforts at the national level in the environmental and municipal fields. Topics on the agenda included the reshaping of the council, a draft cabinet decision regarding the minimum waste disposal fees in landfills, the development of the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, and preparations for UAE Tree Week, which will be celebrated nationwide between September 24 and 28.
