Jordanian Leaders Call for Two-State Solution to Achieve Lasting Peace

In a significant meeting, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and King Abdullah II of Jordan reaffirmed their commitment to the “two-state solution” as the only path to achieving stability in the region. This vital discussion centered on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing shared regional and international concerns, particularly the evolving situation in the Middle East.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During their meeting at the Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi, the two leaders emphasized the importance of continuing to enhance the cooperative efforts between their nations, aimed at benefiting their mutual interests and promoting welfare for their citizens. This dialogue served not only to solidify their partnership but also to demonstrate their united stance towards vital regional issues.

Support for Palestinian Rights

At the heart of their discussion was the pressing situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. Both leaders reiterated their unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people, highlighting that the resolution to the conflict must be rooted in a “two-state solution.” This approach, they contend, is essential for promoting long-term peace and stability throughout the region for all its peoples and countries.

Rejection of Unilateral Actions

The UAE and Jordan expressed strong opposition to any Israeli plans to annex the West Bank or displace Palestinians from their lands. The leaders articulated that such actions undermine the “two-state solution” and threaten both regional stability and prospects for achieving lasting peace. They also condemned Israeli statements that could be perceived as threats to the sovereignty of neighboring countries.

Shared Commitment to Consultation and Coordination

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and King Abdullah II affirmed their joint dedication to ongoing dialogue and collaboration, especially in light of the recent developments affecting the Middle East. This commitment was echoed by both leaders during the meeting, which also saw the participation of high-ranking officials from both nations, showcasing the importance of their alliance and the need for coordinated efforts as challenges unfold.

Following the discussions, King Abdullah II arrived in the UAE earlier in the day for this working visit. His arrival was met with a warm welcome from Sheikh Mohammed and other officials, underscoring the camaraderie between the two nations. The meeting concluded with mutual assurances of supportive actions moving forward, focusing on the shared goal of fostering stability through the “two-state solution.”

King Abdullah II subsequently departed the UAE, receiving farewell honors from Sheikh Mohammed and other dignitaries, marking a successful diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening ties and promoting peace in the region.
