The UAE Green Buildings Council has announced the launch of the “UAE Green Buildings Council Energy and Water Standard,” developed in collaboration with its independent partner, “My Yard.” This initiative aims to provide a reference framework for assessing energy and water performance across hotels, commercial centres, offices, and schools within the UAE.
A Step Towards Sustainable Development
The introduction of this standard coincides with the UAE Green Buildings Council’s programme during the 18th World Green Building Week, taking place from September 7 to September 11. This event unites leaders from the sector, innovators, policymakers, and students under the global campaign “#BuildItReady,” which seeks to transform climate ambitions into actionable strategies within the built environment.
The programme features a range of activities that emphasise women’s leadership, youth empowerment, energy and water efficiency, and the reduction of carbon emissions related to construction materials.
Focus on Women and Youth
The programme kicks off with the event “Women in Sustainability: Building Readiness,” which highlights the pivotal role of women in spearheading sustainable projects across design, engineering, and construction sectors.
Additionally, the “Design for Practice: Student Design Challenge” at the American University in Dubai will see architecture students collaborate with experts to tackle real-world urban design challenges.
Concluding Sessions at Expo City Dubai
The programme will wrap up with a joint session at Expo City Dubai titled “Building with Less Carbon: Evolving Material Pathways in the UAE.” This session will present a practical standard for embedded carbon emissions, aiming to foster and accelerate the adoption of low-carbon building materials in the region.
